Parent Pickup Reminders
Yellow Name Tags should be left up and showing until the child is placed in the vehicle. Please do not assume that all teachers recognize you, or know who you are picking up. Also, if you do not have enough yellow tags for your vehicles, please email Mrs. Bree at bmakowichuk@lagovistaisd.net. Thanks!

Student Electronics Reminder
Please remember that personal electronics such as cell phones and iPads are not allowed to be out of student backpacks during the school day. We understand that students may have these for after school use, and that is fine if you want to allow them to bring them in their backpacks. Our rule is that they stay in the student's backpacks until they are off campus. We want to keep the focus on instruction as well as keep all electronics as safe as possible! Thank you!
Thank You Sticky Fingers Cafe for Donating Gifts for Custodian Appreciation Day!
Thank You ATX Mobile Bike Repair for Stocking the Teacher's Lounge!

Our goal in Lago Vista ISD is to ensure that every student benefits as much as possible from the great teaching and learning that happen here every day. When your child misses school, they miss out on learning opportunities that simply can't be replicated. That's why this year, we are encouraging all parents to help our students "Strive for 5!" — aim for five or fewer missed days for your child this school year. Of course, if your child is sick, please keep them home. However, we ask that you try to plan vacations and other activities around our school calendar to minimize the loss of valuable instructional time.
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.
Dr. Suzy Lofton-Bullis Deputy Superintendent, Lago Vista ISD
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 7:45. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:25. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Christine Harris at charris@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:25 time frame if possible.

Our Week in Pictures
The character trait we learned about in September was Responsibility. These are the students that were chosen by their teacher for being the best at showing responsibility last month! They received a certificate, a shout-out on the announcements, and a gold coin to choose a book from our book vending machine! Congratulations to all of these responsible students!
The H-E-B Excellence in Education program awards cash grants to finalists, winners, and their schools. A nomination starts a journey that can lead to impactful benefits for the schools and districts in your community.

PEC is accepting nominations for the Teacher Spotlight Award through October 25 and encourages members to fill out the form online.
From the nominations received, PEC will select teachers from across the co-op’s service territory to receive awards. This round’s winners will be announced in November and PEC will visit the teachers at their schools to present them with a thank-you basket of resources and materials to support classroom learning.

Lago Vista ISD is now using mySchoolBucks, an online payment service to manage your student's meal account. You can securely fund your student's account via credit card, debit card or your checking account. You will be able to review purchases, see current balance, and receive low balance alerts. The account options are flexible - make a one payment, set up a recurring payment, or set a payment schedule when the account reaches a specified amount.
First, create an account on mySchoolBucks and add your students. If you have multiple children, you can make multiple deposits for each child during your transaction. Next, make a payment. The deposit amount can be placed against a credit card, debit card or your checking account. All payments are securely processed using our highly secure website and encryption. All payments are quickly credited to your students account.

MySchoolBucks - Autopay & Negative Balance Issues
Have you had an issue with your students "MySchoolBucks - Autopay" not processing? There is a reason this is happening.
When setting up or updating the Autopay feature within your student's MySchoolBucks account, there is one thing to keep in mind. If the account is in a negative state, the Autopay will not start processing until the account is brought current and remains current for at least 24 hours.
You will need to make a one time payment either online (credit card or bank draft) or at the cafeteria registers (cash or check only) in order to bring the account current. Once the account is at or above $0.00 then the Autopay should begin processing.
Note: If an account is cleared this morning and is showing $0.00 as the balance but your student purchases a meal today during lunch, the account will go back into a negative state causing the Autopay to not work. Typically the AutoPay processes overnight, so once it tries to process tonight it will not since the account went back into a negative state. Be sure to clear it and add enough to get them through their day.

Firearm Safety
Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms.
It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
· Failed to secure the firearm; or
· Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).
Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.
Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
