Dear TECEC families,

Our children, parents and TECEC team members can all agree that the weather and day couldn't have been any better to enjoy our 16th Annual Preschool Olympics last Wednesday! The children enjoyed Olympic activities such as a gigantic bounce house, cornhole, bike races, water relays, an obstacle course, bulldozer games, parachute games, monster ball, bubbles & chalk, musical hoops and bowling. I would particularly like to thank the TECEC Father’s Club for arranging such a wonderful event, the PTO for supplying the popsicles and John Eliff who is the physical education teacher at Middlebrook School along with his 5th graders. Kudos to my unbelievably talented fellow team members for assuring each child had a magical time! There are plenty of photos for your viewing pleasure in this newsletter.

If you have not had a chance to purchase tickets for ABNO, you can still purchase them at the event. The auction packet with several hundred items can be viewed here: ABNO Auction Packet 2023 FINAL.pdf. The proceeds from this spectacular evening will be used to renovate our playground.

We are very proud to announce that TECEC’s paraeducator of the year is Robin Bova (Miss Robin). Robin has worn many hats at TECEC for nearly 20 years. First as a parent, speech and language pathology assistant and most recently a Specialized Resource Program (SRP) paraeducator where she works alongside of Mr. Todd in room 129. A few sentiments that many of you have shared about Robin include: "Robin is very dedicated, caring, nurturing and always puts the kids first." "Robin never hesitates to take an opportunity to turn a conversation into a teachable moment". "Robin took me under her wing, mentored me, and gave me the confidence to feel comfortable working with children."

Robin's positive connection to the children and TECEC community make her the perfect ambassador to represent TECEC's paraeducators!

Our TECEC Teacher of the Year is Jessica Thom (Miss Jessica) who is one of our speech and language pathologists. Jessica's tenure in Trumbull has included working at Booth Hill Elementary School, Tashua Elementary School, ELITE and for the past decade at TECEC. Jessica is described as "An outstanding speech-language pathologist who plans creative lessons and delivers speech therapy to children with many varying needs." "She works tirelessly to ensure that her students, families and co-workers have all the tools they need to support communication needs at school and home." "I love how she meets each child where they are. She's a true collaborator with all team members, especially parents and takes their hopes and goals into consideration when helping each student." "Jessica is truly invested in the well being and success of all her students."

For these reasons and countless others, Jessica has earned the prestigious honor of earning Teacher of the Year!

Our hope is that both Robin and Jessica will be Trumbull’s, the State of Connecticut’s and the national Paraeducator and Teacher of the Year!

This is TECEC's major fundraising event of the year! Our goal? Update our ORIGINAL playground to make it accessible for our diverse population. Our event is one you don't want to miss! From raffles, to live and silent auctions, there's a lot of moving parts behind the scenes.

Happy May! Our caterpillars have begun transitioning to their chrysalis’ and we are waiting patiently for butterflies! We had a blast at the Olympics this year. Thanks for all who came. The students loved the monster ball, bounce house and the bikes!

Thank you to all the wonderful gifts and cards for teacher appreciation. We are so grateful for all of you! In May we’re learning about animals around the world, ocean animals and we start summer safety.

On Thursday, May 11th, the children in Mrs. Law''s classroom had the opportunity to cover Mr. Matt with silly string. The children (and many team members) made sure that he was covered head to toe with the neon colored string. They earned this prize by being the top collectors of "pennies" in February.

For children who will be going to kindergarten next year, the district opened up the registration portal. The site is: https://www.trumbullps.org/general/student-registration

It is very important to register as soon as possible so the elementary schools can add you to the school distribution list to notify you of important upcoming transition events.

For children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in our three's classrooms , they will automatically continue enrollment in TECEC for the 2023-2024 school year. Children with IEP’s who are transitioning to kindergarten will have a bridging meeting at your child's elementary school within the next few months. We will reach out to you with a date and time. All children in our four’s program that will be going to kindergarten in 2023-2024 will need to register online.

Every Thursday is spirit wear day! Since many of our children do not attend school on Fridays, we thought it would be fun to have “TECEC Thursday” each week where everyone is encouraged to wear school spirit wear.
