LHS Update vol. 2

I wanted to provide this information a few days earlier, but the storm on Wednesday and the subsequent loss of power delayed it a bit. But we press forward regardless. 2021-2022 Orientation for all grade levels will be held on Monday, August 16th. Please review the Orientation information contained in this update. In addition, students that were scheduled to Test Out of a course on Thursday August 12th will now take those exams on Tuesday August 17th. Please reference updated Testing out information below.

All test takers are required to meet their test proctor in the main office no later than 8:00 am.

STUDENTS & PARENTS can now log into their StudentVue and ParentVue accounts to complete 2021-2022 on line registration and sign required acknowledgement forms.

Schedules were made available Thursday, August 12th in Studentvue only. Parents will be able to access on Friday, August 20th.

The required student and parent acknowledgement forms remain accessible without access to student schedules. Please see the information included above.

The deadline to request a change to student schedules will be 11:00pm Wednesday, August 25th. A link to the course change request form will be provided in a separate communication.

Please review the schedule change policy prior to submitting a request.

2021-2022 9th Grade Orientation format to be conducted in-person with small groups. On Monday, AUGUST 16, 2021. The time that students will spend at LHS for orientation will be approximately one hour, and cover the following:

• School Pictures. Students will be provided a form from HSP Photography to utilize for ordering purposes. ALL 9th grade students must have their picture taken for their digital student ID's.
• Chromebook check-out. ALL LHS students will have a Chromebook checked out in their names for use during the school year. Students will log into their StudentVue to access schedules, lockers, and acknowledgement forms if not already completed.
• Pick-up their textbooks.
• Locate their locker. Textbooks may be left in their lockers at this time.
• Introduction to the LHS S.O.A.R initiatives, and other high school expectations.
• Be given a tour of LHS to locate classrooms, restrooms, main office, and other areas of interest.

9th Grade Orientation Small Group Sign Up

2021-2022 10th-12th Grade Orientation format to be conducted on Monday, AUGUST 16, 2021 from 2:30-5:30 pm. It is not necessary for students to arrive at 2:30 pm. Students may arrive, and complete orientation activities ANYTIME between 2:30 - 5:30 pm. The time that students will spend at LHS for orientation will be approximately one hour, and cover the following:

• Student driving registration. Students that will be driving to school must purchase a parking tag for $25.00. In addition, students will be required to provide proof of insurance, vehicle registration, and a copy of their driver's license. Parking Rules and Parking Registration forms will be available during orientation.
• Locate their locker. Textbooks may be left in their lockers at this time.

It is expected that ALL 10th-12th graders complete orientation on AUGUST 16, 2021. Those that do not attend will experience delays on August 23rd.

Students that are enrolled in our LAA are REQUIRED to attend orientation on Monday August 16th.

• Report directly to the LAA room no later than 9:30 am.
• Failure to attend orientation may result in a students removal from the LAA.

Below you will find information regarding optional Chromebook insurance. All LHS students will be assigned a Chromebook at orientation in addition to the assignment of textbooks. As with textbooks, novels, or other school issued materials students will be responsible for any damages that occur to their issued device. Although it is an optional opportunity, it is strongly recommended to take advantage of this opportunity. Our Food Service Department sent out an email last week reminding everyone to fill out free/reduced lunch applications. Although all LHS students will once again eat at no cost this coming 2021-2022 school year, I would still encourage you to fill out an application. In doing so, if qualified, you may be eligible for reduced sports fees, debt cards, etc. Filling out your application also provides assistance for other important programs by Linden Community Schools district. Attached the form that was sent last week.

Linden High School will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT to interested 11th grade students. The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that provides students an additional opportunity to practice for the SAT and serves as a qualifying test for the highly competitive National Merit Scholarship program. The test will be offered at Linden High School on Wednesday, October 13th. The cost to register is $18. The deadline to register for the test is Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Please contact your student's counselor if you have further questions.

U of M-Flint

The University of Michigan-Flint has determined that dual enrolled and early college high school students that are associated with the programs affiliated with the UM-Flint campus are not within the scope of the UM COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. We encourage all individuals to receive the COVID vaccine if they are going to be on the UM-Flint campus and participating in mixed university and high school courses, however high school students participating in dual-enrollment programs or learning at Genesee College Early are not required to receive the vaccine.

All people regardless of vaccination status will be required to wear face coverings in classroom settings on the University of Michigan-Flint campus, including the Northbank center according to the most up to date UM Face Covering Policy which applies to tenants, guests, and all affiliated UM people. Any unvaccinated person needs to wear a face covering at all times while inside university buildings.

We ask that any members of the K-12 community coming to the Flint campus to download the University of Michigan ResponsiBlue app in order to complete daily health screenings before entering campus buildings. The app is available for free in both Apple and Google app stores.
