In April, we hosted and collaborated with other units on presentations about Careers in the Insurance Industry & How to Navigate the Job Hunt, Preparing for Graduate School Applications: A Typical Timeline, Coming Fall 2022 -- NEW Undergraduate Certificate - Insights into Healthy Aging! And two Careers in Social Work events!

For May 2022, we are offering the following two events:

1. Networking, Psychology, and Careers in Advertising Q & A Session Event Description: Katie graduated from the University of Arizona with a BSBA in Marketing through the Eller College of Management, and a minor in Communications focused on public speaking. She kicked off her career in New York, then Paris, and strives to bring a global perspective and a human approach to all aspects of marketing. Her hybrid background across strategy, accounts, and business development brings a unique perspective when developing a strategic concept, architecting a customer journey, or analyzing consumer insights and experiences. Please join us as she shares her story of networking in her undergraduate studies, how one position led to the next, and how you can do this. This course breaks down the complicated process of applying to graduate school in psychology and related fields. This course is geared for the student who is still exploring what they might want to do for graduate school as well as for the student who is absolutely certain (and everyone in-between). Many fields in Psychology will be explored as well as reviewing accreditation, hands-on experience, letters of recommendation, how to pay for graduate school, GRE, personal statements, resumes and graduate school interviewing. The instructor will break down the application process and tell you information that admissions committee's expect you to know but you don't!

**Students can take this class to prep for whatever grad program of interest. I can alter assignments to cater to your grad program prep needs!**

Hi Everyone! My name is Christy Ball and this summer 2022 in pre-session, I will be teaching about my favorite topic, Preparing and Applying to Graduate School. I have been teaching the Grad Prep course for over 16 years now and I am very knowledgeable about the process of applying (and getting in) to graduate school in psychology and related fields. Job Description/Responsibilities

• Assist the Psychology Academic Advisors in mentoring undergraduate Psychology majors

• Co-facilitate 1-hour weekly classes (class times are dependent on schedule) on topics such as fields of Psychology, engagement opportunities, graduate school overview, resume writing, learning styles and study strategies, networking, campus resources

• Provide accurate and reliable information regarding all of the above topics

• Meet with mentees once a month outside of class during the semester, about 10 hours a week

• Attend weekly staff meetings (time and day to be determined), about 1.5 hours a week

• Keep detailed and accurate notes in student files

• Earn 3 credits in Fall 2022 and 3 credits in Spring 2023 of Psychology practicum credit

• Receive valuable training and experience working in a University setting

• Learn teaching methods, basic counseling skills (interviewing, reflective listening) as well as skills and competencies necessary to be an effective and knowledgeable mentor

• Become more involved with the Psychology Department

• Obtain valuable information to prepare for graduate school in Psychology or other areas of interest

Minimum Qualifications

• Psychology or Psychological Science major with Junior or Senior status during the 2022-23 academic year

• Completed a minimum of 9 units in Psychology coursework (at least 6 units at the U of A)

• Minimum 2.5 cumulative and Psychology GPA

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Highly dependable and punctual

• Ability to give 2 semester (Fall 2022 and Spring 2023) commitment to the program

• Able to participate in a mandatory in-person training session on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 9AM-4 PM and Tuesday, January 11, 2023 from 9AM-2PM
