What's Up, Westy Academy!
Week of October 31st-November 4th 2022
What's Up, Westy Academy?
We sure cruised through October! We have just one more day of the month to get through, and it's one of our favorites here at the school. Monday is Halloween, and we will host our annual Trick or Treat Street from 5p-6p through the school. Come dressed in your Halloween costumes, and trick or treat for candy and small prizes. Hosting Trick or Treat Street on Halloween will hopefully allow families to transition easily from the school's event to their own trick or treating fun afterwards! This is one of the biggest and most fun events for our students, so be sure you don't miss it!
On another note, we always want to be sure that we are addressing student safety in all areas of the school. During our monthly Coffee with the Principal meeting this morning, concerns were raised again surrounding school drop off and pick up. Please remember to watch your speed on Irving and avoid trying to pass other cars that may be pulling out of the middle school and intermediate pick-up zones. We also want to strongly encourage using the crosswalks to cross Irving as we have had some near misses in the past. These pieces of traffic safety allows us as administration to work together to ensure everyone gets home in one piece!
That's all for this week, have a great weekend!

Owl Parents! Come check out our Parent Teacher Organization! We are always welcoming new faces, and appreciate all the help we get from our parents who assist with all the school events through the year! Our first PTO meeting will be on November 2nd from 5PM-6PM. Please come if you are interested in learning about PTO!
PTO assists the school with such events as the Halloween Trick or Treat Street, Winter Wonderland, Teacher Appreciations, International Night, etc.!
Dollar Dress Down Day is Friday!
Every month on the first Friday, students will be allowed to wear an outfit of their choice to school, instead of the daily required uniform. We ask for $1 donation from each student who choose to dress down, as fundraising for student activities around the school. So, mark your calendars for the FIRST FRIDAY of every month!
Candy Drive Winners!
We wrapped up the school wide candy drive this week, and boy, did the candy pour in! As you know, classes were competing to see who could bring in the most weight in Halloween candy to support our Trick or Treat Street on Halloween Night. As per usual, the kids took their competitive nature to heart, and we received HUNDREDS of POUNDS of candy! In total, classrooms collected a whopping 439 POUNDS OF CANDY! WOWZA!
But the news everyone is waiting for....who won?!?!
Congratulations to MR. MOORE's classroom for taking 1st place, with a total of 75.26 pounds of donated candy! 2nd place was a close race, but ultimately, MR. BYRD's class takes the lead with 67.57 pounds, beating out Mrs. Barnett's class by only .4 ounces!
Mr. Moore and Mr. Byrd's class will receive their prize of a field trip to Skate City on November 15th from 11am-1pm!
Thank you again to all the parents who helped with candy donations, you are more appreciated than you know!
