Highlights from the Week
Back to School
Students and teachers have returned to school after the holiday break with new energy and new goals. It's great to have everyone back on campus and to see all the progress each student is making.
Woven Art
Weaving is one of the oldest art forms in human history. Students in art classes have been learning about the process through paper weaving. Paper weaving is a great activity for developing fine motor skills, spatial awareness and early mathematical skills.
The Importance of Detail
English students in Mrs. Robertson's classes participated in a literal exercise to recognize the importance of including details in creative writing. The challenge was to explain how to make a PB&J sandwich. The challenge was accepted, but the outcome wasn't quite what they expected when their instructions were followed literally, leaving some odd, unfinished versions of a sandwich.
Class Guitar
Upper school students in Mrs. Warden's guitar class are learning basic chords and proper positioning. We can't wait to see how these students will use the skills they learn in areas like leading worship!
Youth Basketball
Our youth basketball teams are having a great season! There are still three more weekends of play in the regular season and then on to the tournament. Go Lions!
Tornado & Fire Drills
Students in the upper (at DC) and lower (at Beech) schools brushed up on their emergency procedures by taking a little time to do a tornado and fire drill. Drills are an easy, but very important way to help students learn what to do in the event of an emergency.
ARCHERY TOURNAMENTS
It's official! Archery at CCS is well underway and they competed in their first tournament this weekend. Our Lions did a fantastic job and had lots of fun!
Upcoming tournaments include:
- February 17th in Guntersville
- February 23rd at St. Bernard
- March 8th at Cullman Basketball Complex

Opening College Doors with ACT
Did you know that all CCS students take ACT Prep as a part of their standard high school curriculum? The ACT is used for college admission and scholarships. We want CCS students to have their choice of post-secondary options without limitation.
New to Us
The next home basketball game you will likely see our "new to us" scorer/check in table. The table will feature CCS logos and two display screens for announcements and sponsor recognition.
Library Book Exchange
Students enjoyed digging through the newest delivery of library books from the Cullman Public Library. This book exchange is a wonderful opportunity for our students to build their reading skills!
Stepping Up
We love seeing our students step up and take the lead in sharing their faith with others. We want to create as many opportunities as possible for them to practice sharing so that they can go confidently into the world to share with others. In this picture, Lillian is sharing a scripture and thought with her basketball teammates.
CCS Dads are the Best!
Our CCS dads have been able to install bleachers across one side of the gym. This has been a tough task, but one that will be appreciated for years to come!
What is the gospel?
Upper school students heard a great message this week in chapel from Korey Cowart, student and discipleship minister at Crosshaven Church. Korey reminded them what the gospel message is and how we should always keep it at the center of what we do.
Welcome, 2024! The best is yet to come!
