Our Lost and Found Runneth Over!
Sunset’s annual Cram The Stands basketball games!
Cram the Stands is an event aimed to fundraise money for cancer research. Every year, we have an ambassador, the whole community comes together and literally crams the stands in support.
This year's Cram The Stands ambassador is Toyna, an 18-year-old girl with Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive form of sarcoma cancer. Tonya is
cheerful and resilient. She enjoys playing pokemon, training her dog Zoe, and coloring.
This year's Cram the Stands boys game is on January 27th and the women's game is on February 3rd. Both games are at 7pm. T-shirts will be sold for $15 and all proceeds will go towards cancer research. Show up to support her, her family, and other children battling cancer!

Public Safety Campaign
We are sharing an important safety reminder to please only use the designated crosswalks when walking to and from our Findley school campus. This applies to all times and especially to those picking up students in the walker zone to walk home at the end of the day.
The crosswalks at Findley are the only areas protected by a crossing guard and where cars would expect and be required to stop. Crossing Saltzman or Thompson roads at any other location is extremely dangerous as cars are not expecting or prepared to stop for pedestrians. Additionally, while we teach all students about the importance of being safe, crossing the road outside of designated crosswalks sets dangerous habits and examples that we don't want students to imitate. We understand it can be a longer walk to use the crosswalk but the safe examples and habits it sets for our students is worth it.
The safety of all of our students and families is of the utmost priority and crossing the road outside of the designated crosswalks without a crossing guard creates a highly dangerous situation. We ask that everyone coming and going from campus use only the crosswalks to do so.

Elementary Progress Reports
The end of the semester is approaching and Progress Reports will be posted on ParentVUE beginning February 10th. Please see information below about some key updates that have been made for the Elementary Progress Reports.
Dear BSD Families,
We want to thank you for the work that you’re doing each and every day to support your child’s learning. We couldn’t do this without your partnership.
This year we have an updated Elementary Progress Report. Below you will find the key revisions/additions that were made:
Habits and Practices: This replaces the Behavior Learning Targets with a more student-centered approach that includes skills and practices that influence a child’s brain structure and the development of the brain’s executive function.
Language Arts/Math/Music/PE: These four sections both have Habits and Practices for their specific content area in addition to the Academic Learning Targets.
Science, Social Science, and Health: We are no longer using proficiency grading, but rather reporting on Habits and Practices for these specific content areas.
ELD: Reporting for students in English Language Development will now be included on this progress report instead of a separate document. If your student doesn’t receive ELD services, this section will remain blank.
Strengths and Goals: This replaces the Comment Box with a more asset-based approach to communicating student progress.
We are continuously striving to approach teaching and learning in a more inclusive and equitable way through an asset-based lens. All of our students have gifts and it is important to see them reflected in the communication with families. We hope that you find this document informative and that it provides a snapshot into your child’s progress as a student in the Beaverton School District.
Thank you for being part of an inclusive school community! We appreciate your continued support and partnership.

Science Fair coming - March 14/15
Hello Findley parents!
Science Fair is coming up on March 15th! It feels surreal to me :) The school closed for the COVID pandemic after the 2020 Science Fair on March 13th, 2020. The 2021 Science Fair was online (thanks to the tech teachers!) and in 2022 we didn't have a Science Fair at all.
If you have never been part of Findley's in-person Science Fair, here are the steps -
1. Your child will receive a Science Fair registration form in their Friday folder this week. They are encouraged to fill it out and turn it in at the school office by January 27th (Friday).
We encourage you to show this video to your student(s) before they start filling out the form - Scientific Method for kids
Use this opportunity to work with your student(s) on a science topic! Probe them to be curious and come up with a question, and be there for support and advice.
2. The Science Fair committee will review the forms after they are returned and send them back to your student by the next Friday (Feb 3rd) or as soon as possible. Please know that we never reject any project :-) We only provide suggestions.
3. Now your student can start working on their projects and their poster board!
4. Please check the PTO website for Science Fair - https://www.findleypto.com/science-fair/
Registration forms, Guidelines for the Science Fair, and examples of display boards should be available on the webpage.
5. The evening of March 14th your student(s) will come to drop off their poster boards between 6-8 pm.
6. March 15th - they will be judged for their poster and bring home some participation tokens.
**We will send out an email for Science Fair reviewing in February. We encourage parents and grandparents with a science background to participate as a reviewer. during Science Fair night, March 15th**
Special note: For Science Fair, we provide a Science Experiment registration form in the Friday folder. However, your child can also do an Experimental Design project. The forms for the Experimental design can be found at the office.
I have attached both the Science Experiment and Experimental /Engineering Design forms here. In addition, you can also find them on the PTO-Science Fair webpage.
If you have any questions after going through the form and surfing the PTO-Science Fair website, you can email me at mitra.poulami@gmail.com. The office does not have answers to most of your questions and you will be directed to my email. Please allow me 48 hours to respond. If you have a neighbor who is a former Findley student, ask them about Science Fair! Also, students in grades 4 and 5 have seen/participated during the in-person Science Fairs, maybe they can answer too :)
Stay curious!

Community Resources
Student Health Center - Catherine Kately Williams is the new mental health provider. KateleyWilliamsC@nhcoregon.org It is easiest to reach her via email as she does not have a specific phone routed to her. Cat is available M-F 8-5 and will conduct sessions via zoom. She will serve a bridge gap, providing up to about 10 sessions before she moves students on to a long-term counselor if necessary.
