A School -Wide Game Day: Students played games in classrooms/ areas throughout the school to celebrate meeting our PBIS goal (Positive Behavior Interventions Supports)
We are in the third trimester and have so much learning to do before the end of the year. I have been visiting classrooms and discussing the importance of respect and kindness to each other. Please talk to your student about the importance of kindness. Thank you!
Both grade levels have an end of the year contract for fun field trips: Forebay and bowling (fifth grade). These field trips are privileges and students must follow the expectations of the contracts to be able to attend.
The last two months of school we are adding Positive Rewards Recess for all students who do not receive a verbal warning, a pink, slip, referral or suspension. This will be a bonus recess on Friday, April and Friday, May 5th. All playground equipment will be outside and treats for all students! We appreciate our students following the TEAM expectations.
Feather River Parks & Recreation will not be hosting soccer this year for Golden Hills, so we will not be able to have a soccer team. There will be a small track team, more information will be shared soon. Students who are participating in little league should not join track due to time commitments.
Thank you,
Kristi Napoli

Message from the Counselor:
This last month I did lessons on internet safety and sportsmanship. So many of our 4th and 5th graders are online these days and many have cell phones with access to social media. It’s important for our children to know what to be careful of. If children are on social media I recommend that they not share personal information such as first and last names, address, phone number, name of school, pictures, ext. I also suggest that they set the settings to private and are only friends with people they know in person and always have their parents' approval. There are some things that our children should always report to parents/guardians. We call those red flags for example if someone online asks them to keep a secret, shares something inappropriate with them, asks for any of that personal identifying information. I also tell our students not to download anything without parent/guardian permission.
Coach D and I have been talking with our students about Sportsmanship during PE. We use the acronym SPORT to describe what it means to show good sportsmanship.
Says encouraging things
Puts people up (not down)
Okay with losing
Respects others’ ideas
Thinks about others’ feelings
We watched Kindness 101: Sportsmanship and discussed the acronym. Then we practice having good sportsmanship on the playground. It’s so important!
Leadership students have been focused on learning what it means to be a good leader. We have been working on getting to know each other better and practicing working together. Learning to collaborate, listen, teamwork, are just some of a few of the skills we have been focusing on this last month.
I’m working on starting new 3rd trimester small groups and lunch bunches.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concern email: rwalker@palermok8.or (530)532-6000 ext. 2607
Sincerely,
Rainbow Walker
Fourth Graders: Free Access to State Parks
Fourth graders can get into 19 state parks for FREE. The California State Park Adventure Pass helps them do just that. Parents of fourth grade students can sign up for the pass on behalf of their student. For more information, click here Adventure Pass Partner Toolkit (ca.gov). Thank you!
¡Ayúdanos a correr la voz! Los estudiantes de cuarto grado pueden ingresar a 19 parques estatales GRATIS. El
California State Park Adventure
Pass les ayuda a hacer precisamente eso. Los padres de los estudiantes de cuarto grado pueden inscribirse para obtener el pase en nombre de su estudiante.
Para obtener más información: Adventure Pass Partner Toolkit (ca.gov).
¡Gracias!
Class Requests
Due to the nature of our program at Golden Hills, where students may have several teachers in a given day, we don’t take teacher requests. Instead, we value your input on the specific needs your child may have that will assist us in making appropriate placements. Please feel free to pick up a form in the Main Office at Golden Hills between April 5th and May 15th.
Attendance
We have had A LOT of absences the past 2 weeks, if your student is sick, please be sure to call the office. (530) 532-6000.
Our third trimester attendance challenge has begun:

Challenge:
17 days or less absences for the entire year (excused & unexcused)

Growth Parade: Thank you to the families who attended our Growth Parade! The students had so much showing off their growth parade poster!
Staff Appreciation Week
Share a Shoutout Students and Parents – join us in celebrating Golden HIlls staff! Staff Appreciation Week is coming to Golden Hills in May. This year, we will collect notes and messages from students and parents and deliver them to our teachers and staff! Want to Join In the Fun? Send us a note about a Golden HIlls teacher or staff member who has positively impacted your student's school. Shoutouts will be delivered to the recipient during our Golden Hills Staff Appreciation Week (May 1-May 5, 2023). Bus drivers, teachers, custodians, office staff, counselors, health staff, after school program, classroom aides, lunch staff ... send as many as you want! Link for Shout Out: Click Here
Parent Teacher Group
Our PTG is a small group who has met consistently to benefit our students. They have planned a fun field trip for our students to Cal Skate! They need your help!
Let’s show the Golden Hills staff some love! They have been working so hard for all of our students his year, and let’s show them we appreciate them!
For Staff Appreciation Week we want to stock the Staff Room to show appreciation to our staff members. If we all pitch in this makes a light load for all and not a heavy load of work for a few.
We are asking fourth grade families to “Stock the Fridge” with drinks for our staff for the week of May 1-5th. Drinks could be soda, teas, sparkling water, gatorades etc. Help us by donating drinks for the staff. These can be dropped off anytime to the office.
We are asking fifth grade families to “Stock up the Snacks” for our staff members. These snacks could be pretzels, granola bars, protein bars, string cheese etc.. These can be dropped off anytime at the office.
We would like to end the week with a dessert bar. Can you donate a dessert for the staff? If you can, please contact the office and let us know, or bring it on the 5th! We appreciate your support!
