Bulldog Best 🏆
Congratulations to the following Bulldogs who will be recognized at our upcoming October board meeting: Mr. Chris Kovarik, Ms. Beverly Bulliner, and Miss Blake London. We can not wait to celebrate Mr. Kovarik and Ms. Bulliner for their outstanding performance and contributions as staff members. Send them a note of congratulations or submit a shout-out to let them know how they have made a difference for you and your child. Miss Blake London, a current 4th grade student, will also be celebrated for her high level of growth and overall performance last school year. Join us on Tuesday, October 11th at 7pm at James Hart. Way-to-go, Bulldogs!
Midterm Grades 📃
Midterm grades will be available to families on Wednesday, October 12th at 4:30pm. Please log-in to Parent Portal at that time to view your child's current grades in all subjects, including Social Emotional Learning, Specials, and PE. Continue to check-in to monitor their progress. Connect with your child's teacher should you have any questions about the current grades. If you need to update your contact information or are having difficulty in accessing Parent Portal, contact our main office.
Safety 🚔
Churchill recently completed a bus evacuation drill and a second fire drill. Students did fantastic! Code Yellow and Code Red drills will be conducted on Wednesday, October 19th. Homewood Police will be onsite to help support the drill. Please contact your child's teacher or the main office with any questions.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders:
- Use Center Avenue carline for drop-off and pick-up.
- Refrain from using 190th street or any pathway near the bus lane for any arrival and dismissal traffic (Car or Foot).
- If dropping off/picking up not on Center Ave, please use designated areas south and east of the school. When exiting the school area, take roads that are south and west of the school.
- No double parking on Center and please adhere to no parking signs (Jonathan).
*Construction fencing will be altered over the weekend which will slightly change student walkways around the building. It is very important that you are attentive and cautious when moving through the school zone.
*Absolutely NO students onsite before 8:15am. This is a major safety concern. We will be contacting families next week of students arriving early. If you have questions or concerns about this expectation, please contact Dr. Schnoor. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Changing Weather 🍁
October brings with it chillier temps, rain, and sometimes even snow. Please make sure your child has what they need to stay warm and dry. Please label items with your child's name in the event they end up in our lost and found which is located outside the main office. Students will go outside for recess and PE unless it feels colder than 20 degrees or there is inclement weather.
Nurse News 🩹
We have welcomed a long-term guest nurse to Churchill. We are so excited to have Nurse Jasmine Griggley as part of our team through December.
Remember, SHIELD testing kits are being sent home on Mondays and to be returned completed on Tuesday. Collection of samples will take place before noon on Tuesdays. This upcoming week kits will come home on Tuesday to be returned Wednesday due to the long weekend.
Tech Time 💻
Exciting news! Devices for 3rd and 4th grade students will start going to and from school starting Monday, October 24th. We are so fortunate to be a 1:1 district which means every student has access to a laptop. All students have opportunities for extra practice on important skills, to finish work or assignments on Teams, and engage in remote instruction during an e-learning day just to name a few. Our tech team will be visiting all classrooms to discuss with students the importance or caring for their device before they begin taking the device to and from school. All students will be using the device for important learning both at school and home. Here are some reminders for all of our Bulldog families:
- All students will take their laptop to and from school.
- Laptops must return to school each day fully charged. If the laptop does not return to school or is not charged, students will miss out on important learning.
- Laptops must remain in their cases at all times. Chargers should remain in the laptop case and/or with the laptop at all times.
- Students are responsible for the care and use of their assigned device and case.
- Laptops should be restarted each day to make sure they are updated.
- A tech ticket should be completed if there are any questions or concerns regarding the device (charger not charging, will not turn on, trouble logging-in, etc.)

Clubs 🎨
We are so excited to be able to offer some fun activities after school for our students. Please remember to pick-up your child on Center Avenue by 4:15pm each day they have club.
From the Office 🏫
Thank you so much for your help with limiting transportation changes to before 2:30pm each day. This has been so helpful and makes for a more organized and safe dismissal! We have begun to notice a pattern of early dismissals right before school is out. We understand there may be unique circumstances when this may need to happen, but doing this regularly is extremely disruptive to our school day. Please refrain from early dismissals and call the main office before 2:30pm or as soon as possible if one is to happen.
A friendly reminder to send your child with their lunch each day if bringing a lunch from home. We are happy to receive lunches dropped off by parents when necessary, but this should not be the norm. We are seeing an increase in parent lunch deliveries. There are no outside food deliveries like Uber Eats allowed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Halloween Celebration Guidelines
Halloween is approaching and many of our students and families are excited to celebrate. On Monday, October 31st, students may wear a costume to school. The following guidelines must be followed:
- Must wear costume to school. Students will not be allowed to change into a costume.
- Must be able to wear a costume comfortably while conducting daily activities.
- No make-up or masks are allowed.
- Refrain from any costumes that contain blood/gore, weapons.
- No props of any kind.
With the support of our amazing PTA, each class will have the opportunity to engage in some fun activities from 1:45pm-2:45pm. If you would prefer for your child not to participate in Halloween themed activities, please inform your child's teacher. There will be a fun alternate activity that they may participate in. There will be a snack provided by our food service team for every student. No other outside food is permitted.
