Last Call for Career Day Presenters!
Collins will be hosting its annual Career Day on Monday, May 15, 2023. The purpose of Career Day is to expose students to a variety of careers in order to jumpstart their thinking about the future. By preparing early, students will be more likely to be college and career ready after high school graduation.
All students will participate in Career Day. However, we can’t do it without you! We need volunteers to speak for three 20 minute-long sessions about their career starting at 8:00 am and ending at 10:00 am. We will have four sessions: 8:00- 8:20; 8:30-8:50; 9:00-9:20; and 9:30 -9:50
If you, a family member, or friend is interested in volunteering to speak about a career, please complete the form below.
Volunteer selection will be on a first-come basis.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Castaneda at carmen.castaneda@dvisd.net.
With your help, we look forward to having another engaging Career Day!

Library Update
We have had a great time in our library this semester!
We have officially finished reading our One School, One Book selection, Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. For PreK-2nd grade, I wrote a picture book adaptation of Wishtree so that all grade levels could experience the beautiful message of the book. We read the picture book during our library lessons, and afterward, students wrote their own wishes and added it to our beautiful library wish tree.
5th graders enjoyed their author visit with YA author Mari Mancusi on March 23rd. Mari brought an autographed postcard for every student. Five students even won free copies of her books. Many students are excited to read her books as well as all the fun YA books in our middle school libraries!
PreK, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students were all able to attend a special presentation from the Austin Public Library's ArtSmart program on April 3rd. Presenter and artist Ambray Gonzales shared stories through song, a shadow puppet show, flannelgraph, and art. She showed students how to draw dragons and create a shadow puppet show. It was truly a special performance, and we were so thankful she could visit our school.
PreK, Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade students enjoyed the Austin Public Library's Literature Live! tabletop performance of Wiley and the Hairy Man on March 6th.They had a great time at the show! They also loved talking with the puppeteers afterward and learning about the art of puppetry.
