102 Years Strong: Lake Shore Graduates the Class of 2025
Lake Shore High School proudly celebrated its 102nd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, honoring 214 graduates.
A digital copy of the ceremony program is available here.
The event featured a stirring bagpipe processional, heartfelt reflections from student and staff speakers, and moving performances by our choir and band. All graduates wore matching red gowns with white arm stripes this year—a symbol of unity.
Each graduate invited a special Lake Shore staff VIP—someone who made a meaningful impact on their educational journey. These VIPs were seated in a reserved field section, where they could exchange hugs, high fives, fist bumps, or waves with their honored students.
This year’s keynote speaker was Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Dell. GySgt Dell has served 12 years in the Marine Corps and is a 2012 graduate of Lake Shore High School.
Student Congress President Lauren Maciejewski, along with seniors Alexis Gress and Aiden Bennett, were also invited to speak. Lauren encouraged her classmates to pause and capture a single moment from the day—to take a mental snapshot and hold it close. Alexis shared a heartfelt reflection on her personal journey, which ultimately led to her decision to pursue a degree in Instrumental Music Education. Aiden reflected on the bittersweet nature of graduation, saying, “It’s crazy how we spent years wishing it would end, but now that it’s here, it hurts more than we expected."
“For 102 years, the Lake Shore community has trusted us to educate their children,“ said Lake Shore High School Principal Janelle Bross. “It is not a commitment we take lightly. Graduation is the culmination of years of hard work from students as well as teachers and families. This year and every year is a celebration for not just the students, but the entire community as well.”

The first day of Summer is June 20th, but it's time to start planning your warm-weather activities! As you make your summer to-do list, prioritize self-care and well-being.
- Embrace the great outdoors. Spending time outside has numerous benefits, such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and boosting creativity. Consider activities like walking, hiking, biking, gardening, or relaxing in a shady park.
- Make time for loved ones. It's easy to get caught up in our daily routines and miss out on quality time with friends and family. This summer, prioritize reconnecting with your loved ones through shared meals, game nights, movie nights, or simply picking up the phone for a catch-up call.
- Prioritize sleep. During busy times, our sleep habits can suffer. Make an effort to establish a consistent sleep schedule and give your body the rest it deserves.
Most importantly, have fun and do something that brings you joy each day. Whether trying a new hobby, indulging in a favorite activity or simply taking time to relax and unwind, make sure to prioritize your happiness this summer.

Lake Shore to Continue Free Summer Meal Program for Children in 2025
Lake Shore children will continue to benefit from free, healthy, and nutritious meals during the summer months in 2025, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announced.
Starting this week, Food Distribution continues with our participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a governmental program ensuring that children could continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations, when they do not have access to the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs. The SFSP, also known as Meet Up and Eat Up, is operated at the local level by program Sponsors and is administered in Michigan by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Health and Nutrition Services.

- Menus: https://lakeshoreschools.nutrislice.com/
- Meal Sites Across Michigan: https://www.mcgi.state.mi.us/schoolnutrition/
The Meet Up and Eat Up Summer Food Service Program serves children up to age 18.
“There is a vital need to reach out to the state’s most vulnerable young people to provide nutritious food,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice. “MDE remains committed to leveraging every available option to feed more children during the summer.”
For many students, the cafeteria is the first stop on their school journey. From that very first walk through the lunch line, our heroes are focused on more than just nutrition—they care deeply about each child's well-being. Their priorities include keeping students safe, making them feel welcome, and serving up meals that are both nourishing and delicious.

Seniors Making Memories
Lake Shore Proud: Honoring the Class of 2025 and the Journey That Shaped Them
Lake Shore Public Schools proudly celebrates the accomplishments of the Class of 2025 as they step forward into the world as future leaders.
In honor of their journey, we have celebrated this outstanding class with a variety of recognitions: aerial photos featuring our 25 buses, personalized lawn signs along 13 Mile Road, graduates’ names displayed on marquees at every building and on the stadium’s big screen, special social media tributes, postcard mailings, a Senior video and walk, Decision Day festivities, a memorable Honors Ceremony, prom celebrations, scholarship announcements, The Shoreline Senior Issue, Meet at the 50, and tomorrow's much-anticipated commencement ceremony!
The lawn sign is an announcement to the entire community that a graduate lives here. It means this senior has earned at least 22 credits and has successfully completed 13 years of school. It is a symbol for the late night study sessions, athletic competitions, and/or bonds with forever friends. More importantly, it is a statement that the child has Lake Shore blood.
Seniors participated in a heartfelt tradition by visiting Lake Shore High School, Kennedy Middle School, Masonic Heights Elementary, Rodgers Elementary, and Violet Elementary. Each senior carried a carnation to gift to a staff member who had made a meaningful impact on their life.
- Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/1928492699713208732
Emma Clausen selected to give her carnation to 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Hoehing at Violet Elementary. She explained, "She was my own 3rd grade teacher and I did my job shadow with her last year for ECM; She is one of my greatest mentors and has inspired me to become a teacher." Emma's sister Morgan currently works alongside Mrs. Husek at Violet.
Lakeview students Seven Kempkens, Aidan Basting, Evan Martin, and Madison Geib visited their former Lake Shore elementary schools to thank their past teachers. Even though they’re now in a neighboring district, they still felt compelled to return and share a heartfelt hug.
We even spotted a few seniors sharing special moments with their younger siblings—like senior Brendan Fernhout embracing his 8th-grade sister, Riley.
Throughout their educational journey, our staff has instilled lessons of courage, dedication, and compassion. Their unwavering support has made a lasting difference.
It is truly a great day to be a Shorian!
North Lake Class of 2025 Celebrates Milestone Moments
North Lake High School’s Class of 2025 and graduates of the Lake Shore Adult & Community Education High School Completion Program recently celebrated their achievements alongside proud families. Smiles were shared, and joyful tears marked this unforgettable milestone.
This sign proudly announces to the community that a graduate calls this place home. It represents a Senior who has earned at least 20 credits at North Lake High School and successfully completed 13 years of education. It stands as a symbol of late-night study sessions, hard-fought athletic competitions, and friendships that will last a lifetime. Most importantly, it declares that this graduate carries the spirit and pride of Lake Shore.
Alongside this milestone, the Student Council launched an exciting new initiative aimed at enriching the experience of future students at North Lake—by offering volunteer opportunities and new ways to represent and support their peers. The North Lake High School Student Council has plenty to be proud of. This year, they hosted the second annual basket raffle in February, sponsored the Valentine Gram fundraiser, supported staff appreciation events, and encouraged student participation in Fright Night, the second annual car show, and the school-wide trip to Cedar Point.
Congratulations Barracudas!
Bonus: Lake Shore's Adult and Community Education has been named a 2025 Readers Choice Award finalist as one of the best in Macomb County! Voting opens from now-June 19th to name LSACE as #1: https://www.macombdaily.com/
Kennedy Middle Celebrates Growth, Grit, and Greatness!
At our Kennedy Middle School Celebrations, several standouts will be recognized with Clipper Awards, the John Hills Award for Determination, Most Outstanding Student, NJHS participant, Honor Roll, ECO Club Recycler, Etiquette Award, and individual course awards. We celebrated our 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade students at their Awards Ceremony! Start Strong, Stay Strong, Finish Strong is exactly what they did.
The John Hills recipient this year was Jaxon Deel-Smith.
Principal Dr. Johnson explained, "This award is given to an individual who has overcome some academic and social challenges in the time they were here at KMS. As a new student they struggled and had to make some significant changes to find success as a student."
The transition to Kennedy Middle School from Masonic Heights Elementary, Rodgers Elementary, Violet Elementary, or another elementary school may feel overwhelming. New school. New schedule. New friends. Over time, those 3 middle school years transform from anxiety to excitement. It is the atmosphere at this special school where students learn to adapt, develop skills of independence and responsibility, and prepare for new opportunities.
Thank you Dr. Johnson, Mr. Gaffigan, and Ms. Kubiak for your leadership, kindness, and extraordinary patience as you helped these students face a number of academic and social challenges. Middle school is difficult to navigate, especially when kids are forming their identities.

From Capes to Certificates: Celebrating the Class of 2037 and Our 5th Grade Standouts
At our 5th Grade Celebrations, we honored students for their citizenship, creativity, academics, and attendance across Masonic Heights, Rodgers, and Violet Elementary!
Students took the stage to receive certificates and a well-deserved sendoff. We also spotlighted special programs unique to each school, recognizing participants in Presidential Excellence, Safety Patrol, Community Helpers, Student Council, Choir, Science Olympiad, the Positivity Project, Specials, and Principal's Choice Awards.
Congratulations to our Principal’s Award recipients for their all-around excellence:
- Masonic Heights: Veida Schwartz
- Rodgers: Nora Hill, Athena Lao, and Savannah Watson
- Violet: Austin Cholette and Alyssa Margitish
These students demonstrated outstanding friendship, initiative, integrity, leadership, trustworthiness, and citizenship.
Tiger Parent and Lake Shore Class of 2011 graduate Corin Stocking said, “Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it — watching my daughter [Isabella Stocking] graduate elementary school is a beautiful reminder of how far she’s come and all the greatness that lies ahead.”
There's nothing they can't do—except stay in elementary school forever. Middle school, here they come! Keep showing that strong work ethic and passion for helping others!
We recently celebrated the early milestones of our youngest learners during our Kindergarten celebrations. With cheers, dancing, and joyful waves, staff honored the Class of 2037 with admiration and pride. Time flies—before we know it, these imaginative and carefree students will be walking across the stage to receive their high school diplomas. In fact, we’ve already honored our graduating Class of 2025 by displaying their names on marquee signs at each of our buildings.
- Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/1932511963562516567
Parents Jessica and James were in the audience at Rodgers Elementary to support Kindergartener Gwen D’Agostino. Mom Jessica said, "Gwen has always been happy, curious and outgoing. We knew she was going to love kindergarten, and she is absolutely nailing it. She wants to be an animal doctor when she grows up!"
We’ve had the privilege of watching you learn and grow every day, and we are excited to see what you’ll accomplish next. Congratulations to the Class of 2037—keep dreaming of becoming superheroes, princesses, or master builders of the world!
Lake Shore Early Childhood Center Rolls Out Success with Trike-A-Thon Fundraiser
Lake Shore Early Childhood Center hosted a heartwarming and energetic Trike-A-Thon, raising funds to support its growing programs — and more importantly, fostering a lifelong love of biking, movement, and learning among its youngest students.
Even a little rain couldn't put a damper on the fun. With umbrellas in hand and rain boots splashing, the Lake Shore community came together in true Shorian spirit. The kids kept pedaling through puddles and drizzle, proving that not even the weather could slow down their excitement or determination.
The event was a joyful scene: the sound of tiny tires rolling along pavement, cheers from teachers and families, and smiles as wide as handlebars. Dozens of preschoolers pedaled their hearts out, showing determination, balance, and joy as they completed lap after lap on tricycles, bikes with training wheels, and scooters.
- Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/1930640011902271676
The purpose of the Trike-A-Thon wasn’t just fun — it was meaningful. Funds raised during the event will go directly toward enhancing classroom experiences, outdoor play opportunities, and learning materials at Lake Shore ECC. These investments strengthen the school’s commitment to early childhood development through physical activity, social connection, and joyful exploration.
“This event is a great reminder that learning starts with movement,” said Early Childhood Coordinator Kelly Biondo.” We’re not just teaching letters and numbers — we’re helping children build confidence, coordination, and a love for school.”
With helmets securely fastened and streamers flying, the Trike-A-Thon became more than a fundraiser. It was a celebration of childhood — one filled with exercise, laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
At Lake Shore ECC, every pedal forward is a step toward building strong, healthy, and happy learners.
Go, little riders — the journey has just begun!
Our Tigers, Rockets, and All-Stars Had a Field Day to Remember
Our elementary students celebrated the end of the school year by participating in Field Day events. To have a field day means to get a lot of pleasure and enjoyment from doing something; We are certain this was a true expression for our Tigers, Rockets, and All-Stars!
- Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/1931031456647704590
Although students were excited to earn the W in so many activities like Flying Shoes, Fill-It-Up Relay, Soccer Shot, Bean Bag Cornhole, Javelin Throw, Football Toss, Dizzy Bat Races, Sack Races, Long Jump, 50yd Dash, and Disc Golf, they were also rewarded with hugs and high fives from their friends for effort. Good sportsmanship always wins.
In addition to traditional field day events, STEAM activities were also part of the fun. These activities included Straw Rockets, Lego Marble Run, Paper Airplanes, Cup Stacking, Styrofoam and Toothpick Building, Community Circles, Bubble Wands, and Aluminum Foil Boats.
Class of 2025 graduates Lauren Maciejewski, Emma Clausen, Jimmy Sheen, and Lake Shore Teacher Cadet Maddie Geib volunteered to help at Violet Elementary because of their own love for the district and desire to give back.
Lake Shore's Class of 2014 Breajah Anderson-Cole volunteered at our Rodgers event. Her two Rocket kids Arr’Bree and Arr’Brielle were able to spend some quality time with their mom. She reflected, "Field Day 2025 was amazing! I’m so happy to be a part of this day with my children! I’m a Shorian Alumni and it feels so great to be back on the field, watching my children play! Just where I use to be! Go Shorians!"
It is wonderful to see so many LSHS student-athletes and volunteer parents assisting with the activities! Thank you to Mrs. Pecoraro, Mr. Brosnan, and Mr. Warrick for making these special days for our students and to Badalamenti-Ferlito Orthodontics for donating popsicles to every student!
From sack races to STEAM stations, hugs to high-fives, our elementary students wrapped up the year with fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories.
Rolling Into Summer, One Last Time
Wait—nostalgic already? Nooo, not yet! Already counting down to the 2025–26 school year.

Behind Every Cap and Gown: A Celebration of the Heart, Hands, and Heroes Who Made Graduation Happen
Graduation isn’t just about the caps, gowns, and diplomas—it’s about the people behind the scenes who make the moment possible.
Every unforgettable second of our ceremony is a reflection of those who work tirelessly—often in the background, never asking for recognition, but driven by the belief that #OtherPeopleMatter.
It starts with leaders like Dr. Bross, Dr. Stevens, and Mr. Puvalowski, who manage the countless logistics, coordinate speeches and rehearsals, and provide direction so students and families know where to be and when. They make order out of chaos.
Behind every camera angle, drone shot, and perfectly-timed video clip is Mrs. Blaszkowski and her amazing team of current students and alumni. Their technical talent and storytelling brought our graduation to life from every perspective.
Thanks to Stewart Fine Portraits, families will soon be flipping through albums and hanging framed memories on their walls—each picture a beautiful reminder of this milestone.
Our venue looked stunning thanks to Conlon Installations, whose signage wrapped around John U’Ren Stadium transformed the space into a visual celebration of our graduates.
Behind the programs and information booths were our dedicated office staff—the nerve center of it all—ensuring that every detail, from printouts to last-minute questions, was handled with care and grace.
Our Maintenance and Operations team are true unsung heroes—arriving first, leaving last, and handling setup, cleanup, parking, and even golf cart transportation (yes, those rides were thanks to them!). They never stop moving, and they do it all with a smile.
Our Food Service team made sure the morning started right by preparing breakfast for more than 200 staff and students—fueling the energy and excitement of the day.
On Friday, our bus drivers helped carry out the beloved Senior Walk tradition—taking students back to the schools that helped shape them. Many of these drivers have been with our grads since their very first school bus ride. Full circle.
Our Superintendent Dr. DiPonio & Board of Education—leaders who support student success all year through policy and tough decisions—stood proudly in the crowd, celebrating right alongside us.
Our VIP Staff section was filled with incredible educators and staff members who made a lasting impact on our seniors. One special moment came from Senior Lainey Catlin, who invited her former 2nd grade teacher, Miss Pierce from Rodgers Elementary, as her VIP.
Lainey shared, “I didn’t think Lake Shore would be able to contact her—she quit teaching and moved across the country years ago. But ever since I figured out what I wanted to do after high school, I kept thinking about Miss Pierce. Even after 10 years, her kindness and the way she truly cared for each of us still stuck with me. When I saw her on the field, it made my whole graduation. I’m so grateful every senior got to choose a teacher to watch them cross the stage. Because of her, I’ve decided to become a teacher too.”
And finally, so many staff members from across departments stepped into roles outside their official job descriptions, simply to support the greater good. Because that’s what real teamwork looks like.
This was more than just a graduation—it was a community effort. A celebration made possible by every hand, every heart, and every person who said, “How can I help?”
Thank you for believing in our students. Thank you for making this moment unforgettable.
Athletics
Athletics Website
We have built an online home for our athletic department. Our goal is to bring our athletic programs to life by sharing schedules, scores, and social media while ensuring our athletes get the promotion they deserve. Visit the Shorian Sports website for 24/7/365 access to the information you have always wanted and follow along with our sports action.
We have partnered with Kroger to help fund our athletics. Please read this letter from our Athletic Coordinator Rich Bowers.
We believe a balance of academics and athletics creates a well-rounded student. Students who participate in sports not only gain the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, they also learn lessons about sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, cooperation, respect, and knowing how to win and lose.

Inclusion in Action: Lake Shore’s Special Athletes Field Day Brings Joy, Courage, and Community Together
Creating something meaningful starts with solving problems—and Lake Shore Public Schools showcased this beautifully through our Special Athletes Field Day.
This event exemplifies our commitment to inclusion, a core part of Shorian culture. Inclusion fosters belonging, acceptance, and the belief that everyone should feel valued.
Today, our student-athletes and teams brought this philosophy to life by facilitating engaging activities and supporting their peers throughout the day. Athletes had the opportunity to build physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy while sharing their talents, skills, and friendship with family, fellow athletes, and the broader community.
You can view the activity stations here: https://tinyurl.com/LSSpecialAthletes
Special Olympics Michigan plays a vital role by offering year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Events like Field Day reflect that same spirit of opportunity and inclusion.

We’re incredibly grateful to Adapted Physical Education Teacher Cris Belanger, former Senior Leadership students Carsen and Aiden, and our entire Special Education Department for organizing and running such a meaningful event. Thank you also to our Food Service team for a tasty BBQ lunch, the Maintenance and Operations crew for setup and cleanup, families, student-athletes, and participants. We’re also grateful to Sophia VanDenstorm for managing the scoreboard and music during the event, and to Collin Taylor for doing the same at Rodgers Field Day.
Thank you to Badalamenti-Ferlito Orthodontics for sponsoring the popsicles—it was a sweet way to end the day. We also appreciate DOX Grillhouse for sponsoring our Special Athletes t-shirts!
We are also incredibly grateful to the Violet Community for the heartfelt send-off and the unwavering love and support you’ve shown our classrooms. Check out the video of our clap out celebration and another capturing their fun and pride at Special Athletes Day:
