Important dates to remember

Aug. 25th- Parent-Teacher Conferences 8:00-3:30pm (no school)

Sept. 1st- No School-professional development for staff

Sept. 4th- Labor Day-no school

Sept. 8th-Early Release-Dismissal @ 1:30 pm

Parent Teacher Conference

August 25th will be a no school day to allow for parent teacher conferences. These are an opportunity for you to tell me about your child. The entire time is yours to share any relevant information with me to help your child be successful.

Important Information

Students have the opportunity to write an essay over what freedom means to them for the chance to be selected as the MacArthur representative for the Freedom Walk. There isn't enough time for this to be completed in class, so it will need to be done at home if they are interested in doing the essay. It is an optional activity. If students are the selected MacArthur representative they will read their essay in front of everyone at the Freedom Walk on September 8th.

Please fill out the 'Beginning of the Year student information' survey. It is a longer form where you have the opportunity to tell your child's teacher about your child, goals for this year, any concerns, and any additional information you want to share. We ask for this to be completed by August 25th so we can ask clarifying questions at the parent-teacher conference.

Beginning of the Year Student Information

Curriculum

Math– Students will begin chapter 1 regarding place value and whole numbers.

Reading- Students will begin using Wonders, our reading curriculum. We will follow a 6 day lesson plan to begin the school year. Day 6 will be the assessment day. The weekly essential question is: How do we get the things we need? The comprehension strategy is: reread. The comprehension skill is: sequence. The vocabulary strategy is: context clues.

Grammar- Students will review types of sentences.

Social Studies- Students will begin our unit over The Age of Exploration.
Science-Students will learn and explore how the web of life works.

Leader in Me- Students will work on Habit 1: Be Proactive.

Character Strong- Students will continue to participate in the Kindness Kickoff of our new curriculum.
