The Weekly Update #4
August 28th, 2023

Week 1!!!
We did it!
ACMS families,
Thank you for a great week. Your students did a wonderful job of learning the new school, helping their peers with their lockers, getting to know their classmates and new teachers, setting classroom norms, and building up the "school brain" stamina! Enjoy the 3-day weekend.
ACMS teachers rock! 📚✏️😃
Planner
This is what your student's planner looks like. You can support your teachers by checking in with them, regularly.
Team building
Above, students worked in pairs to solve a math puzzle.
Roles
Teachers use creative ways to determine student roles in a group!
All things LUNCH!
This year, we have two lunches. We landed on this after feedback from staff about the following:
* Three lunches spanning nearly three hours occupied staff support that could be better used in classrooms
* Third lunch didn't eat until 1:15 needed a snack before lunch
* Class courses were disrupted because of the lunch restrictions
* With the multiple lunches and various end times, they were not able to use bells
* This year, we are using bells to help teachers and students keep better track of time
* We landed on 6th graders eating alone, since the transition to a bigger building, older students, and 6 periods to navigate is a lot for them
* The 7th and 8th graders together was the logical combination. We confirmed with the nutrition services that we would have the capacity to serve them all if they were combined.

Day 1: We did not have enough tables, I am sorry, that was my fault!
Day 2: Our amazing district operations brought us more tables and we had access to the stage steps where many students found their place. Some of your students came to talk with me and proposed 6/7 together. You've raised great advocates!
Day 3: We had enough tables!

Reminders:
1. Lunch is 15 minutes, recess is 15 minutes
2. We're having students bring their lunch bags upstairs so they're more likely to remember them when coming back inside from recess. Please remind them to gather their things so you don't have to buy new lunch bags or Lulu Lemon leggings for a new bag!
3. Microwaves are available if students bring food to warm. We ask that you do not send popcorn with students, as we don't have 100% confidence they know that magical point between popped and burned! 🙂
4. Please remind your students to throw away their trash. We have several large/easily accessible garbage cans. We have great custodians and they work tirelessly to keep our school safe and clean. After lunch, we need them to sanitize surfaces vs. pick up food and baggies left behind. Each day there were more and more food items, apples, baggies, etc. Thank you for reminding your student!
5. To access request free or reduced lunch, please see forms here.
6. We know the recess area isn't currently meeting the need of getting the energy and wiggles out. The climbing structure was opened on Thursday, and I purchased new footballs, foursquare balls and volleyballs for students to use. When the basketball hoops are in and the track is finished, there will be many more spaces for kids to enjoy. Thank you for your patience.
PTSA
