LEAD: Building A Generation of Volunteers
Our hope for the 2021 MLK, Jr. Weekend of Service was to inspire our youth to observe what is happening in their communities, ask questions, dream of how things could be different, and be empowered to become agents of change. Thanks to the generosity of our community, sponsors, and partners we combined two popular family-friendly volunteer events – Give Together and Valentines Challenge, into the 2021 MLK, Jr. Weekend of Service. In both events, volunteers worked on service projects from the safety of their homes, school, or after school programs.
CONNECT: DEI Work Group
In January 2021, Volunteer Fairfax formed a Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Work Group to serve as the steward of all internal and external activities of the organization related to DEI, and to become an active change agent in fostering a continued culture of inclusion in their workplace and the community.
Recognizing that Volunteer Fairfax is a regional leader in the non-profit community, the DEI Work Group was established to help the organization be deliberate and consistent in its DEI messaging and actions. These actions include maintaining a “safe space” to ask questions, voice concerns, and exchange ideas about equity and racial justice, both in their own workplace and the community, and advising VF leadership on DEI policies and guidelines.
MOBILIZE: Nominations for the 2021 Volunteer Service Awards are now open
In unprecedented times, where volunteering among many other aspects of our lives has been very different, we will once again focus on honoring our volunteers. We will bring awareness to the work our volunteers have done through their support of programs that benefit education/literacy; food insecurity, environmental sustainability, along with several other key mission areas. The Volunteer Service Awards is a great time for our community to come together to honor and celebrate all the amazing work being done in our community through volunteerism.
We continue our mission to amplify community impact by Leading, Connecting, and Mobilizing through volunteerism.

The VF Offices have moved to make way for expanding operations of the Fairfax County Health Department.
