The Colt Express
November 26, 2023
Principal's Message:
Greetings Colts Community,
It was another great week in Colt Country! On Wednesday, we had some special guests serve up Turkey Dinner for lunch! Thank you to Dr. Heather Golly, Kursten Orr, Leonor Rodriguez, Shawna Reed and Mr. Camacho for helping out our Nutrition Services Crew!
We took time on Friday, November 17th to enjoy a nice lunch as a staff! The Camacho family wanted to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the BWE Staff for their hard work! As Charlie Brown once said, “We should just be thankful for being together. I think that’s what they mean by Thanksgiving!" I hope you all had an amazing time with family, friends and loved ones! Also, on Friday, we honored our Bonsall West Staff member Jennifer Rogers as she is a hero to all of us. She quickly sprang into action and helped a student in distress and administered the Heimlich. Thank you Mrs. Rogers!
In other news, Mrs. Brady and Ms. Van Wormer’s 5th grade classes had a great time on their second visit to the Bonsall Farm! If you want to see some happy students, take a look at some of the pictures on display in the Bonsall Farm section of the newsletter.
E-bikes continue to be a concern on campus - All visitors and students are expected to walk your bike or e-bike on campus. Helmets are required so please be sure that those on the bikes are correctly wearing helmets. Parents/Guardians, it is still being witnessed that older students are riding their e-bikes with younger students on them who are not wearing helmets. Safety is extremely important to the entire Bonsall West community. A big thank you to those of you who are walking your bikes and e-bikes on our school campus.
Dogs - Dogs are not permitted on campus at any time, including outside the campus gates.
Thank you for your attention to these important safety reminders!
Jog-A-Thon update: We are happy to report that we have raised $29,228! A HUGE thank you to parents, family and friends that have donated to support BWE and all of the programs and academic resources that these dollars cover for our kids. Congratulations to our top 3 student winners were as follows:

Thank you so very much for all of your support this year’s Jog-a-Thon! We are so grateful for your contributions, your volunteer time, and your treat and water donations.
We are happy to report that we have raised $29,228! All the money raised goes right back to the school, the students, and teachers, and helps pay for field trips, programs and apps for the classroom, teacher grants, assemblies, Chrome books, school and community events, and much more!
Please see the flier below regarding our open board positions for the 2024 school year. The elections will take place at our March 21st General Association meeting. Now is the time for you to join our amazing board!

COVID Test Kits
Bonsall Unified School District has supplied two COVID test kits per student for our site. If you would like you, the parent or guardian, may pick them up at Bonsall West Elementary. These COVID tests are provided to you as a courtesy. Testing is not required by our district.
Although we are excited to have your child attend school every day, when your child is sick, we do ask you to keep him or her at home. Specifically, if your child has tested positive for COVID, he or she should remain at home for five (5) days from the onset of symptoms or positive COVID test (if asymptomatic). Your child may return on Day 6, unless he or she remains sick. Masking upon return to school is not required by the District.
We wish you great health as we know the cold and flu season approaches, and encourage you to place special attention to taking practical steps to boost your student’s immune system by providing nutritious food, proper amounts of sleep, and good doses of exercise.
Community Partners
The Leader in Me
At Bonsall West Elementary School we are focusing on the Leader in Me to build lifelong leadership skills.
We want our students to focus on the 7 habits:
1. Feel empowered to be proactive and be in charge of themselves.
2. Set goals and begin with the end in mind,
3. Focus on work first then play with put first things first.
4. Have an abundance mindset and think win-win.
5. Listen to our peers and seek first to understand, then be understood.
6. Work collaboratively and synergize.
7. Have school work/life balance and sharpen the saw.
We have a couple of resources that explains the paradigm shifts and habits that we focus on and will get them to you soon.
All students will attend a BWE expectations assembly this week. We will review schoolwide expectations/rules and answer any questions.
