Last Thursday our school participated in the California Great Shakeout. Mid-morning, our students and staff rehearsed safety protocols to prepare for an earthquake. Following the duck and cover portion of the drill, our whole site evacuated buildings safely. Our staff then executed a mock search and rescue protocol to ensure we are ready for a real natural disaster. Your children did a great job!

This week parents of emerging bilingual students at Lewis gathered safely in our auditorium. Principal Phillips and VP Vergne shared site goals and helpful resources. Parents provided valuable input. Parent involvement makes a positive impact Lewis!

On Friday, October 29, 2021, students are encouraged to dress up for Halloween! Let’s have fun while adhering to the following guidelines:

• Costumes must meet the Lewis’ dress code as posted on our website and in the student planner
• Full face masks/full face painted are not allowed – students must wear a face mask that covers mouth and nose (per COVID protocols)
• No excessive gore
• Weapons, fake or real, are not allowed
• Culture is not a costume. Often times, costumes that depict a culture are demeaning, disrespectful and perpetuate stereotypes. If any student wears an outfit that portrays a culture, students will be asked to change

Do you have friends with middle school aged children? Do you have neighbors who attend outside our school district, but are considering coming back to San Diego Unified? Do you live outside our neighborhood boundary, but want to have your children at our school?

Lewis teachers offer individual office hours to help students with questions about assignments/projects, taking make-up tests/quizzes, or discussing questions about their class. A list of teacher office hours can be found under the Student Tab on our school website. It’s a valuable resource for student success…check it out here!

• Does your child have a new cough that cannot be attributed to another health condition?

• Does your child have shortness of breath that cannot be attributed to another health condition?

• Does your child have a headache that cannot be attributed to another health condition?

• After taking the temperature today, does your student have a temperature greater than 100.0F?

• In the last 24 hours has your child had any of the following symptoms: chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or new loss of taste or smell?

• Has your child come into close contact (within 6 feet, for longer than 15 minutes) with someone who has a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 14 days?

• Has a health provider or public health official asked your student to quarantine (i.e., stay home) during this period?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, please keep your child home and call our health office for support and guidance (619) 510-4300.
