A Note from Dr. Whipple
October 1, 2023
Homecoming!
We kicked off the week with the Human Rights Club making announcements throughout the day of how to say hello in different languages. Throughout the rest of the week different clubs sponsored activities to promote inclusion and thankfulness. Check out the pictures below!
Senior Parking Space Painting
Homecoming Dance
Neon Night was a big success! Saturday night in the gym was filled with dancing, fun music, creative outfits, and plenty of pizza and cupcakes. Student Congress did a great job decorating the gym and making it look great! Special thank you to Mrs. Farquhar-Nelson, Ms. Meuwissen, Mrs. Chevier, Mrs. Zebulske, Ms. Jean, Ms. Ulrop, Mr. Wright, and Ms. Greibus for chaperoning.
Homecoming Week!
Also, please note that we have a Superintendent's Conference Day on Friday, 10/6. There will be no school that day for students.
Dollars for Scholars Jar Wars!
Dollars for Scholars will be hosting their annual Homecoming Jar Wars competition during lunches all week. All forms of currency are collected in jars in front of the cafeteria during the lunch breaks, Pennies are positive points, and everything else is counted as negative points. The grade level that raises the most money (often the lowest negative value) over the week wins. The class that wins earns points for Homecoming week. It's a fun way to raise money for student scholarship opportunities!
5 Week Interim Reports & Ineligibility List
The first 5 week interim reporting period ends on 10/6 and can be accessed on Schoology. The first ineligibility list will be created from this report. Students who are failing one or more subjects will be considered ineligible to participate in athletics, drama and school clubs for a minimum of one week after report cards or progress reports are published. During this period in which a student is ineligible, they may practice but are ineligible for games or performances. Once report cards or progress reports are published, students have a minimum one-week ineligibility to make-up all work and get their average to a passing grade before the first opportunity to be reinstated. After the initial one-week ineligibility, a student may get removed from the list by completing the “Ineligibility Sign-Off Google Form” from the Counseling Office secretary.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Test
On Tuesday and Wednesday this past week, students had the opportunity to take the ASVAB test. The ASVAB is a standardized test that reveals areas of strength and ability in science, math, and language. The test gives students insight into potential career paths in the armed services that align with their strengths.

Student ID Scanning on Buses
Please remind your student that they need to have their ID card with them to scan when boarding the school bus. This is for safety reasons by helping to ensure people are on the correct bus and so that in case of an emergency we have an accurate account of who is present.
In addition to their ID card, students may obtain a barcode on their phone to use for scanning. Instructions on how to obtain the code are posted on each bus or can be found here.
Reporting Absences & Extended Student Absences Work Request
Absences need to be reported to the school health office by the parent/guardian of the student. This may be done so online by completing this form.
If your student will miss an extended period of time during the school year, please make sure they complete this Extended Student Absences Work Request form. This form should be completed a minimum of 2 weeks in advance if it is a planned absence. Students who have an excused absence will have one day for each day absent to make up work. Students who have an unexcused absence will have no additional time to complete work. Please note that family vacations are considered unexcused absences.
