We have some exciting news!! See it here first. Our Barry Mission, Slogan and Logo have been announced! We are SO excited! A special 'thank you' to all our families, students and staff for supporting us through this process and sharing your voice. We had a fantastic Leadership Assembly today where we recognized several students, played some games and shared our new Mission, Slogan and Logo. We can't wait for you to see it too! Our pre-k students had a visit from the KCFD! They had so much fun learning about fire trucks and getting to hold the fire hose.

Our 5th Graders in Ms. Jones' class were learning about cardinal vs. intermediate directions and learning about their map skills.

Our 5th Graders in Ms. Robertson's class were learning how to add and subtract decimals during their rotation on Tuesday!

Mrs. Fuller's students were working on their Fantasy writing pieces! Students were so excited share what they had written with administrators when they came by!

Our Kindergarten friends were learning in their reading centers during small group reading time.

We had our VERY first Barry Elementary Leader In Me LEAD Day today! It was such a fun experience and our students did an excellent job in the assembly. We wanted to share out what LEAD Day is so you have a better understanding and can talk with your child at home to reinforce what we are doing here at school.

The day/days consist of profound, engaging, and interactive learning experiences around the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, an orientation to the Leader in Me process and 7 habits. Student-led groups participate in leadership opportunities to better our school and enhance certain character traits. This month we are focusing on Habit 3, Put First Things First and discussing the importance of responsibility. During the day all students participate in an assembly and selected students will additionally participate in a "Quality Student" celebration where they will celebrate being nominated by their peers for showing exceptional responsibility and leadership.

K and 1st grade students check out one book during their library special. Students in 2nd -5th grade check out two books during their library special. Books are to be returned on their next library day in order to check out new books. If you forget your books on library day, you can bring them back the next morning and check out from 8:30-8:50.

Past due/late notices have been sent home the past few weeks. We will begin sending email reminders home soon. We have so many amazing books that we want to give everyone the opportunity to check out and read! Also, we have been noticing quite a few books coming back with water damage. Please be on the lookout for wet backpacks (mainly due to leaking water bottles) and if this happens, let me know right away!

The book fair is coming up! We are so excited to host the very first Barry Elementary Book Fair. It will take place October 30th-November 2nd. Students will have the opportunity to buy books during their library time, before school from 8:30-8:50, and during both nights of parent/teacher conferences. Here is the link to our official book fair website, where you will find all things book fair. On this website there is a volunteer sign up to help Mrs. Williams and Ms. Begg during the book fair. You also have the option to create your student(s) an eWallet. This is an online account where you can add money for your student so they do not have to deal with cash. In past experiences, this option has worked best. We would love your support to make sure we can have the #BarryBest book fair!

You are invited to our annual Barry Elementary ~ Pathfinder Elementary Trunk or Treat

Come dressed in your Halloween costumes and walk from trunk to trunk collecting treats.

When: Wednesday, October 18th

Who: Pre-k, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd will begin at 5:00

3rd, 4th and 5th will begin at 6:00.

Where: Barry Elementary and Pathfinder Elementary parking lots

We are also looking for families and/or groups to “host” trunks! Please contact Amy Wazac at wazac@platteco.k12.mo.us if you are interested. Flyers will be sent home on Monday, please fill out and send back in if you are interested in hosting a trunk!

If you can’t host a trunk but still want to help, we are asking for candy/treat donations. This year we are holding a grade level competition. The grade level that has the most items donated for our event will earn an extra recess!

Safety is one of our district’s top priorities, and to help safeguard our school community, our District uses Safe Schools Alert, a tip reporting service by Vector Solutions, that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.

You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through this online reporting system. On the homepage of the District website (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com) and on each school building's homepage there is a Safe Schools quicklink which links to the reporting tool. Every tip Vector Solutions receives about our District is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer. Together, we can make our District a safer place to learn.

We believe that birthdays are an important time in a child’s life, and Barry students will receive a Birthday Book in celebration of their special day. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or a store or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.

Don't forget to sign up for ARCHERY! Scan the code below and pick a time that works for you. A flyer should have also come home this week for those interested. Tryouts will be held at Pathfinder and practices will be held at Barry Elementary. This is an amazing opportunity for our students. We can't wait to watch out Barry Archers shoot!

We are excited to share that this year's Homecoming theme is "Enjoy the Ride" ROAD TRIP to Homecoming"

We will be participating in Spirit Week at Barry the week of October 9-13. The Parade and Football Game are on Friday, October 13th. Students will dismiss at 12:50 that day. With this early dismissal we will be offering one school lunch choice of cheese pizza. Please use the form below to designate your student's lunch choice so we can plan accordingly. Thank you in advance!

Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.

October's #PiratesROCK trait is RESPONSIBILITY: being accountable for your actions without blame.

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2. We are offering both in-person and virtual options for conferences. This is a very important time for parents to discuss their student's progress with his/her teachers, as research has shown that parental involvement is one of the most important factors in a student's success in school. Please see the schedule below (buildings and teachers will be communicating specifics for reserving time slots).

If you are coming for lunch, you may bring in outside food for your child but we ask that you not share that food with any students other than your own. We are excited to have our families in for lunch!

We are excited for our students to start working for our Barry'd Treasures School Store. They will gain valuable real-world experience in the areas of teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and customer service as they learn lifelong skills! All proceeds from the store will directly benefit the students and the school.

For the 2023-24 school year, both Pathfinder and Barry will be supported by one PTA that is made up of members from both schools! PTA would love your support in this organization which provides experiences directly related to kids: field trips, leadership shirts, classroom parties and more!
