Oak Hill Observer
March 17, 2023
Hello, Wonderful Oak Hill Community!
Just a reminder that there is no school TOMORROW, Friday, March 31st as we honor Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Day.
This coming week, we have another 4 day school week, with Friday, Aril 7th off for Good Friday. The spring book fair is running this week and provides a one stop shop for some fantastic literature and fun items while supporting our library program.
For our parents and guardians, this week and next provides several opportunities to learn more about our school, district and state initiatives. We'll have Early Learning Day for incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten students on Wednesday, April 5 (8:30-10 or 4:30-6), our April PTA meeting on Wednesday evening at 6pm in the cafeteria and our April CAC meeting over zoom on Monday, April 10th at 3:30 pm. All are welcome!
While we are still finishing out this school year, we also begin some planning for next school year. One of the most important tasks we do is to create the classes for the following school year. In an effort to create balanced classes for next year and to foster a positive school-home partnership, parent input is taken under consideration. And while not guaranteed, parent/caregiver feedback about placement is strictly based on input letters, not verbal interactions or promises between parents and staff. Know that administration does not keep placement input from previous years, therefore, if there is important student information to be considered, please provide that information in the current year’s parent input process as outlined below. Feedback is due by Wednesday, April 19th.
Input process: A letter regarding placement for next year is not required, however, if parents have extenuating circumstances or significant concerns, please see the following guidelines: (1) A separate letter (email attachment only) MUST be submitted. Limit to one-page (10 – 12 font size). Due to the amount of input received every year, general email communications WILL NOT be accepted. (2) Specific teachers or classmates CANNOT be requested. All teachers on our teams are skilled and competent individuals. (3) Share traits and characteristics of your child(ren) that affect their learning. (4) Share the type of educational setting and class dynamic that you feel will best meet your child(ren)’s needs. (5) Email attachment MUST be sent to the Principal (lori.komassa@austinisd.org), NOT the Classroom Teacher. Please note that I DO NOT schedule meetings to discuss next years placement. Thanks for all of your support, as we strive to make the best placement decisions for your child(ren).
Thank you to everyone who has already registered for the 23-24 school year! If you haven't please do so. As always, please also read the calendar and Latest Information sections below - there's good information to know! Thank you for all of your support!
Your Proud Principal,
Lori Komassa

SEL Trait of the Month-Responsibility
The SEL TRAIT for the month of April is “Responsibility”. Responsibility means to do the things you are expected to do, and accept the results (consequence) of your actions.
Some examples are:
-when your parents expect you to complete a chore like loading the dishwasher after dinner, but before playing, your responsibility is to put all dishes in the dishwasher first before you start playing.
-when your teacher expects you to complete the “must do” tasks first and then start with the math games, it is your responsibility to complete the must do tasks first.
Being responsible and accepting responsibility leads to earning trust from other people because they know they can count on you to do the right thing.
Healthy GO Snacks = Eating Smart!
Do not skip breakfast! Studies show that people who eat breakfast have a better attitude, are more productive and have better concentration and problem-solving abilities.
Teach your kids to start each day with a healthy breakfast. Be a CATCH MVP and try some of these quick and healthy GO breakfasts to get each day off to a healthy start:
• Low fat yogurt with diced fruit and granola.
• Whole wheat tortilla rolled around string cheese, and a piece of fresh fruit like mango or papaya.
• A hard cooked egg, whole wheat pita bread or toast along with a cup of skim milk and fruit.
Have a budding artist? Here is an after school opportunity for students to learn to draw or improve their drawing skills. This class will work on the creation of characters, color theory and the study of forms. You can register using the form below.
