EHE Connection
June 18, 2022
Greetings, Laker Families-
Reminder: Monday, June 20, is a regular start day with a 12:15 release and no lunches served for the last day of school.
**Report cards went home in the backpacks on Friday.
It has been so refreshing seeing families gather together and celebrate our students in June! The first annual Garden Party & Poetry/Art Night brought out so much joy, Walk to School Fridays returned as a tradition, the grade level celebrations united our Laker community in person once again, Field Day included so many volunteers, and much more! Thank you for all your support throughout another year of pandemic restrictions and for your flexibility as we adjusted along the way as restrictions eased and were lifted. Although the end of the school year can be bittersweet, we celebrate the incredible academic and social/emotional growth of our students. We have finished strong and students and staff are ready for the summer!
As we anticipate coming back for the 2022-23 school year, please keep the following at the forefront of your planning:
In order to provide some relief from back to school shopping - we are asking Emerald Hills Elementary Families to contribute a $25 per student supply donation to cover the cost of school supplies. Families will be able to pay the $25 donation in August by logging into Skyward. All students should be prepared for school with a backpack, refillable water bottle and lunchbox.
NOTE: Breakfast and lunch will no longer be free for all students. You will be able to once again load money onto your child’s account via Family Access starting in August. IMPORTANT: Free/reduced lunch applications will be available when our office opens the week of August 22. You can also pick up and complete a form at our Back-to-School Night.
Please watch for a “back to school” newsletter in early August
Thursday, September 1 is Back-to-School Night…4:30-6:30pm
Class placement postcards will be mailed home by Friday, August 26. If you have not received it by Back-to School night, your child’s teacher will be visible when you log into Family Access on 9/1.

From the District
The nineteenth day of June, recognized as Juneteenth, is a day of remembrance for the day enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the emancipation proclamation was issued. Juneteenth has been designated as a federal and state holiday. This year, classrooms across the district will be recognizing Juneteenth on either Friday, June 17, or Monday, June 20. Here are some resources for families to learn more about Juneteenth.
Juneteenth: All About the Holidays is a short PBS video that offers an introduction to younger students
Juneteenth - A Celebration of Resilience is a website from the Smithsonian with a variety of resources
What is Juneteenth? This overview of the holiday from the History Channel offers facts and a short video with links to many other related topics
