Kendallvue Community Newsletter
December 17-19, 2023
All Students are Curious, Creative, and Confident Learners!
Dear Kendallvue Families,
We are excited for our first, whole school winter holiday performance on Tuesday morning. Due to the limited amount of space, we ask that only immediate family attend. We want to assure that all parents have space in our gym and cafeteria, which we will use as overflow. We are not sure what kind of turnout to expect since it is during the work day and our first whole school performance. We will record the event and put it up on the website too. There is more logistical information below in the newsletter. As a reminder, Tuesday is a full day with students. Parents may also early release if you choose. All students must be signed out in the main office.
We are excited to participate in the Bear Creek High School Empty Bowls event with all the Bear Creek articulation schools on February 7th. The purpose of this event is to raise money for charities that feed the hungry in our community. It is also an opportunity to strengthen our Bear Creek Community. Mrs. Tomlinson has been working with our students in creating bowls that will be on display at the high school. Families will have the opportunity to purchase bowls for $5 as a donation to the Jeffco Action Center. We are hoping to raise $2,000 or more for the Action Center. Families will enjoy soup, prepared by the high school culinary students and their families. The music programs at each of the schools will also be performing. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come together and raise money for a good cause in our own community.
I look forward to seeing some of you on Tuesday. Have a wonderful winter break! We will see you in January 2024!
Cheers,
Bruce Lindsey
Principal

Winter Performance
Here are some logistical procedures for Tuesday morning:
- All adults entering the building must sign in and have a red visitor sticker.
- The first doors to open for the performance will be the blue, outside gym doors. They will open at 8:00am for parents to enter the school and find seats for the performance. Please do not sign in during the morning drop off and walk to the gym. We will still be setting up in the morning.
- The gym doors will close at 8:20am so our students can start entering the gym. Parents will need to use the front doors to enter the school after that time.
- We will have four tables with sign in sheets at the gym and front doors. Hopefully this will alleviate any long lines.
- The students will be organized by grade-level in their homerooms along the east wall in the gym. There will be chairs for adults on the gym floor and on the stage for overflow.
- After the performance, students will exit the gym and go to their classrooms for the parties. Please do not follow your student to their class at this time if you are attending the parties. There is a gap in time to allow teachers and kids to prepare for the parties.
- For parents not attending the classroom parties, you may exit out the gym doors. You will not need to sign out.
We will send another notification on Monday as a reminder of our procedures. It really helps staff if we all follow the procedures so we can have as much order with hundreds of people in the building. I'm not going to lie - this gives me great anxiety!
Front Office Updates
Dress warm!
Remember it is getting cold out! Please send your students in appropriate clothes for the weather. We only hold inside recess when the weather feels like 20 degrees or below and depends on precipitation. We determine this throughout the day to make sure students are getting as much outside time as possible.

Technology Tip:
Jefferson County Schools provides families with the ability to monitor and control their student’s internet and app activity on district devices at home using the free SecurlyHome app.
Once you create a parent account, you will have a real-time view of your child's activity on their school device. You will also get a weekly email from Securly with a snapshot report of that activity and will be able to check your student’s internet activity anytime during the day.
Keep in mind that no web filter is perfect and there is the risk of inappropriate content making its way through the filter. Securly does catch and filter a majority of traffic categorized as pornography, drugs, and gambling. However, active monitoring while communicating your expectations and boundaries clearly with your children is the best way to keep them safe online. Our hope is that the SecurlyHome app will help you in this process.
For more information, visit our district website page, read the SecurlyHome App Getting Started Guide, or watch this SecurlyHome for Families slide presentation. If you have questions, please contact our TechForEd School Lead, Katiana Brenner, at kbrenner@jeffco.k12.co.us.

A Message from the Colorado Department of Education
As you may know, the Colorado READ (Reading to Ensure Academic Development) Act provides funding and a framework for improving literacy outcomes for kindergartners through third graders, particularly those with “Significant Reading Deficiencies” (SRDs) who are at risk to not read at grade level by third grade. The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has been working with WestEd and its partners to conduct a legislatively mandated evaluation of the READ Act since March 2020.
The survey should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and all responses will be kept confidential.
- We are only asking you to complete the survey if your child has ever been identified as having a significant reading deficiency (SRD) and/or has ever been given a READ plan.
- If you have multiple children in kindergarten through grade 3 who have been identified as having a significant reading deficiency, please complete a separate survey for each child.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this parent survey. We greatly appreciate your time and willingness to share your experience.
