The sun shone brightly at the qathet Welcome Back event at Willingdon. It was wonderful to

see so many smiling, happy faces! 🌞

It was great to see so many familiar faces and to get a chance to meet so many of our new families. 😀

Students, parents and staff greatly enjoyed the return of the much-loved Bard on the Beach 🎭 adventure. This trip includes ferries, busses and shopping/lunch at Granville Island and has been a long-standing PAC Organized event. Many thanks to Charlene and Lisa for organizing; and to everyone else who played a part in making it happen for our students this year.

PIE staff spent their September Pro-D learning about Indigenous Storytelling. Led by PIE teacher and Indigenous Success Teacher, Alyssa Stapleton, we were introduced to some amazing ideas that will influence our practice as educators.

Although Truth and Reconciliation Day has passed, Indigenous education and learning is an on-going process. Please enjoy some of the resources we have curated for families.

Our Indigenous Success Teacher, Alyssa Stapleton, organized a great session on learning ʔayʔaǰuθəm and making a lantern. Students in the Comox Valley brought their lanterns to the Welcome Back picnic to light them together.

qathet PIE student Ross spends a lot of time working on his truck. Here he is fabricating the new bumper for his tracker. He plans to work with his Dad to build rock sliders and a rear bumper. Nice work, Ross! 🚙

One of Madeleine's goals this year is to spend more time in the kitchen! Once a week she prepares a special treat or meal for the family. She has made gluten-free peanut butter cookies, frozen yogurt bites, blueberry muffins, sautéed veggies for dinner, and made tacos from scratch - Yum! 🍪

Bence moved to the Comox Valley from Hungary a year ago and one of his favourite classes this year is Digital Media Development. He runs a Minecraft channel called Beezecat Gaming on Youtube and is currently looking for people to join his Minecraft Bedrock server! It’s a great server for youth 12 and up where you can make friends and have fun! If you’re interested in joining, you can message Bence on Discord at Beezecat#7497.

qathet PIE students enjoyed a tour of the local paramedic station and an ambulance! Lots of fun was had. 🚑

Did you know that October is LGBT History Month?

Ally Week runs from October 9th - 13th and National Coming Out Day is October 11th.

The next PIE PAC meeting will be held virtually on October 25th (more details to be emailed soon). It will be a hybrid meeting where people in or travelling to the Comox Valley can attend in person and those who are not able to attend in person will be able to join virtually. Please contact stephanie.hall@sd47.bc.ca to receive a link if you would like to join the meeting. All PIE parents are members of the PAC.
