What's up in the Small Middle School Library? 4/10/2018

Upcoming Events:

Wednesdays during PRIDE-Book Club- We are currently each reading our own self selected novels.

April 9th- STAAR 7th grade Writing & 8th grade Math (Library closed this week.)

April 10th- STAAR 8th grade Reading & 6th and 7th above grade level Math

April 19th- No school- Staff Development Day

April 26th- Volunteer Appreciation Celebration in the library

What I'm Reading...

I am currently reading The Secret Keepers by Trenton Lee Stewart. It was recommended to me by one of my library regulars, Julia D., a 6th grader. I previously read The Mysterious Benedict Society also by Trenton Lee Stewart and really enjoyed it. The Secret Keepers tells the story of 11 year old Reuben and a mysterious object with special powers he has discovered. He embarks on a quest to discover the origins of the object and the owner only identified by the "P. William Light." He soon discovers P. William Light is not a who but a where, and that multi generations of the family that reside there are connected to the mysterious object and a family secret. I can't wait to finish it to see what Reuben uncovers and the object and the family secret!

March Library Statistics

In the month of March:

396 books were checked out (despite only being open for 13 full school days!)
700 students came to the library on their own with a pass.
An average of 54 students visited the library on their own each open day in March.
The library hosted a CAC meeting, a faculty meeting, and TELPAS makeup testing.

New Books

We received 113 new books this past month! Many of our new arrivals are part of either the 2019 Lone Star List or the 2019 Maverick graphic novel list chosen by the Texas Library Association for 2019. You can find links to both lists and information if you click the logos below.

April is School Library Month!

April is National School Library Month! The spokesperson for School Libraries this year is Dog Man author, Dav Pilkey. Watch a PSA from him here. April 9 is National Library Workers Day and National Librarians Day is April 16.Thanks for your support and appreciation of school libraries!
