Welcome to Term 1 - Classes Resume Thursday, 8 Feb
I hope everyone has enjoyed some quality time over the break - you can rest assured the team are energised and looking forward to classes re-opening on Thursday, 8 Feb.
Prior to this, of course, Wednesday, 7 Feb is set aside for individual meet the teacher parent sessions, with an opportunity to find out more about the year ahead, but particularly to provide a time for you (and your child if you would like them to attend) to let us know about their strengths, achievements, goals and aspirations for the school year.
If you have not already booked your time, please see your email for instructions on how to do so, along with the booking link/code.
HERO Parent Portal App
An important reminder to make sure you have downloaded the HERO parent portal app.
Moving forward, this will be the primary platform for communication relating to your child and school organisation, making it a 'must-have' for all parents.
It's important to also make sure you have enabled 'push' notifications when setting the app up in order to receive other timely information and updates as and when required - see below for further information on how to get started.
Weather Alerts
With the possibility of very high temperatures forecast ahead, please pay particular attention to our sunsafe policy this term, including application of sunscreen before school and our 'no hat, no play' rule.
While there are still a few of the old MENPS caps in circulation, please also be mindful that these do not actually afford the recommended protection for children - the best hat for this is the safari hat, followed by the bucket hat style, both of which meet sun safety guidelines.
Black, red or white sandals are permitted (not branded, no 'gibbetz' decoration) in our policy, and are the best option for warmer months.
Please ensure your child has the full, correct uniform from day one, as per our Uniform Policy.
Phones in schools
Our Policy on phones is unchanged - they are not permitted on school grounds for students (including in schoolbags).
Please note that smartwatches with any kind of voice or text functions are also not permitted.
In the event of any urgent (essential) messages at any point, these can be passed on by phoning reception if required.
Drop-off and Pickup
Please be reminded that children may be dropped off no earlier than 8.15am, and must be picked up no later than 3.15pm. Outside of these hours, SKiDs after-school care is available.
A reminder also that drivers must remain in their vehicle when using either of the drop-off/pick-up zones on Valley and Sherbourne.
Walking and/or cycling are always encouraged where possible, and make a significant difference to making busy times before and after school much more manageable.
Once again, I'd like to wish everyone a warm welcome back - we're looking forward to welcoming all of our new and returning families this week, with best wishes for a successful term ahead.
We'll be sharing more with you soon about the exciting opportunities and activities ahead for 2024 here at MENPS!
