Tuamuaki/Principal Pānui
Kia ora tātou e te whānau o Kaikōura Suburban School - Greetings to everyone within the community of Kaikōura Suburban School,
Fun for the final day
We wrapped up our first term of 2022 with, fun, laughs and some tears. Responding to the children's requests we had a mufti day with the addition of crazy hair fun. We played lots of games, had some easter treats while enjoying the beautiful sunshine. It was a fine way to celebrate our learning journey for term one 2022.
Farewell Mrs T - Chan Toala
The tears came as we farewelled our amazing kaiako of Titi, Chan Toala. Although her stay was short, Mrs T brought our school so much joy and positivity. We wish Mrs T all the best on her next adventure. Please find a special feature tribute to Mrs T further on in this pānui.
With Mrs T's departure opens celebrate the return of Rebecca Macer in term two, she will came back as our deputy principal and the kaiako for Titi for the rest of 2022.
Student Council
Our student council has been established. After a couple of hui and discussions about governance, politics and purpose, the team have come up with the name: Star Force. There are two representatives from each class on Star Force. The initiation of the Star Force - student council came from Robin Reid in Toroa, he approached me earlier in term one to tell me about student council. To help with this establishment and forming systems Robin and Myself will be working together with the Star Force Team.
The representatives from each class are:
Piwakawaka: Mikayla Ross and Ben Herbert.
(all Piwakawaka children will have a turn in Star Force throughout the year).
Titi: Tyler Boyd and Hannah Nee
Toroa: Bailee Herbert and Leila Ward
Netball
We also have a year 5 & 6 netball team who will be playing on Saturdays next term the first game is May 14th at Kaikōura High School.
Finally I wish to apologise for the confusion that occurred with our buses on Thursday after school. One of the drivers became sick leaving our bus service without a driver. It was then decided that there would be one bus for Suburban flat, Hāpuku and Clarence. Unfortunately, the bus went the long way before dropping off our Suburban Flat tamariki which meant some whānau were very worried about the late arrival of their children. I hope to create a more streamlined communication pathway - going forward, so that as unforeseen changes arise we can mitigate the disruption as much as possible and ensure whānau know what is happening for their children.
I wish you all a lovely Easter, health, vitality and connection with friends and whānau - He whakawhānaungatanga koutou.
Thank you all for your support this term. Our team at Kaikōura Suburban have appreciated it very much. Considering the many adaptations and adjustments we have asked you to make, including dropping children at the gate, no community assemblies and the postponement of the Whale Run - the heart of Kaikōura Suburban feels well loved, cared for, and full of vitality.
We look forward to having you all come and join us in term two for assemblies, learning celebrations and if you need to talk with us - our door is open, this is your kura/school.
Kia pai te whakatā - may you all have a good rest.
Mauri ora,
Alicia Poroa
