Need some new Eastview gear? The Eastview Online Apparel Store is now open! You can choose from a wide variety of sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats and mittens with additional new items arriving in the upcoming weeks. All items that are purchased through our online store are usually available for pick within 48 hours at the west door security desk between the hours of 7:40-3:30.

Beginning December 1st, the Eastview School store will also be open for in person visits on Wednesdays from 7:00-7:30 and during lunch. Stop down at the east end of the commons during those times to check out everything we have to offer.

We have a new opportunity for student academic support on Wednesday afternoons from 2:45pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students can come and do schoolwork in a supported, supervised setting. We will have faculty/staff support along with upperclass peer tutors (especially skilled in Math) available each Wednesday.

Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:45pm so they can benefit from the full support.

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

The regular deadline to register for the December 11th ACT is this Friday, November 5th. To register, click here.

The December 11, 2021 ACT test is a great exam to take because it is the next opportunity for students to purchase the exam they took, the correct answers, and their answers. This option is called TIR (test information release) and is only offered on the December, April (national exam, not the free exam given at EVHS during the school day) and June exams. The TIR is extremely helpful when students are preparing to take future ACT exams. For more information, click here.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE NIGHT

College Financial Aid information

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available. Please go to www.fafsa.gov to complete this application. Information to assist in completing the application are also available on the FAFSA website. All seniors attending ANY type of post-secondary institution should complete the FAFSA.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

Congratulations to the Lightning Dance Team members who represented Eastview at the Miss Dance Team MN competition this weekend. Highlights included: Ava Wood - 2nd place in Middle School division, Ainslie Hicok - 6th place in 9th grade division, Addison Hedrick - 5th place in 9th grade division, Maya Schmidt - 3rd place in 9th grade division, Abby Williams - 2nd place in 11th grade division, Danielle Nelson - 5th place in senior division, Katie Percival - 3rd place in Senior Division, Elizabeth Dobis - 1st Runner-up, and Elizabeth Hallum earned the title of Miss Dance Team Minnesota for the 21/22 season. The junior and seniors listed also were selected to Team Minnesota to travel to California next spring to compete at nationals.

Eastview Sideline Cheer has spots open for the 2020-2022 Basketball Cheer season.

Wednesday, Nov. 10 is the first day of the NCAA Early Signing Period for all sports EXCEPT football which begins their early signing in December. As of 2019, the NCAA process now allows signings for most sports almost any day of the year. As a result, we have not had individual signing ceremonies as a school the last few years, but instead celebrate our Senior Athletes with a much larger scale opportunity in the Spring that recognizes all of our athletes who will be continuing on to compete in athletics at the collegiate level regardless of division or receipt of athletic aid. Some individuals and programs will choose to celebrate collegiate signings in their own ways, but we will not hold a school-wide signing ceremony. Instead, our Spring Senior Athlete Celebration is where ALL of our athletes competing in collegiate athletics will be recognized along with our all-school athletic department award winners.

That being said, we’d like to send a list of our athletes who are officially signing a National Letters of Intent (NLI) and receiving athletic aid with Division I or II schools to the local papers and media outlets at different times throughout the year. If your son or daughter is planning to sign during the early period that starts next week, please send an email with the student name-school of choice-sport they are signing in to matt.percival@district196.org no later than November 8th. Each month the Minnesota State High School League puts out a publication called “MSHSL Connect” featuring stories and information for member schools. This month’s article features two full pages on our own Science teacher, head boys cross country and head boys track coach, Tom Sharp, on his continued support to raise money and awareness for inclusion through his marathon running while pushing others in a stroller who would otherwise not get the opportunity to run a marathon due to physical or cognitive disabilities. His incredible service has been inspirational to so many and I am thankful to the MSHSL Publications Team for capturing his story! VARSITY SPORTS

Here are some updates on our our Fall Athletic Teams as many have concluded their seasons and a few others will be wrapping up in the coming weeks. In addition, our Winter Sports are starting to get underway with Dance Team starting last week and Girls Hockey starting yesterday. Here is a recap/update on our Fall Athletic teams:

Adaptive CI Soccer- The CI Hawks are 6-1-1 as they are nearing the end of the regular season. Their State Tournament is November 19-20 at Stillwater.

Adaptive PI Soccer- The PI Hawks 5-0 and are at home at Hope Fieldhouse on Tuesday afternoon vs. Minneapolis. Their State Tournament is November 19-20 at Stillwater.

Competition Cheer- The Comp Cheer team competed in the MCCA STATE CHEER Off competition on Oct. 2nd and took home two 1st places and one 2nd place and was the Overall Cheer-Off Champions! Their season continues through the winter.

Boys Cross Country- Ran in the Section 3AAA Championship race at Valleywood last Thursday morning. They placed 5th as a team. Senior Hunter Dunne was the SECTION CHAMPION and is STATEBOUND! He will be joined at STATE by teammate Senior Nate Getman who placed 9th and is also an individual qualifier! The State Meet is at St. Olaf College on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Girls Cross Country- The girls also competed in the Section 3AAA Championships at Valleywood last Thursday and placed 2nd as a team making them STATEBOUND as a team for the first time since 2015! The Lightning had several season and career best times including the fastest in school history by 7th grader Kienna Loberg who placed 3rd overall and Sophomore Emily Percival who also had a career best time placing her near the top of the school record board and placed 7th overall! Other members of the STATEBOUND team include Robyn Dayton, Grace Swenson, Sonja Olson, Grace Chambers and Hadley Knight.

Football- The Lightning made the trip to #3 Centennial in the opening round of the 6A football playoffs and put up a great fight trailing just 7-0 at the half before falling 35-14. They finished the year 3-6 overall.

Boys Soccer- The boys had two big wins at home to officially open Lightning Stadium before falling 1-0 in a heartbreaker to Rosemount in the Section Championship Game at Eagan.

Girls Soccer- The girls played a great game to defeat Apple Valley in their first playoff game to open Lightning Stadium. They had a great effort in the Section Semis where they fell to Eagan 1-0.

Girls Swim and Dive- Had a very competitive regular season including finishing as the Section True Team Runner-ups. The MSHSL Section Meet will be held at Bluwater Aquatic November 10th-12th and their State Meet will be held at the U of M Aquatic Center November 18th-20th

Girls Tennis- Had a very good team season, falling to eventual State Runner-up, Blake, in the Section Quarters. In Individuals, Jeyasri Venkatasubramani, was the SECTION CHAMPION and advanced all the way to the STATE Quarterfinals at the U of M last week. She finished the season with just two losses all year.

Girls Volleyball- The Lightning traveled to #4 Woodbury last Tuesday in the Section Quarterfinals and put up a great battle in each set, before falling to the Royals in three sets.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

There is a required meeting for all athletes planning on playing boys volleyball in the spring this Thursday, Nov. 4. You can choose to come before or after school. 7:10 am or 2:35 pm in room C250. If you can’t make it, contact coach Dehnel this week sometime.

Intramural Basketball Informational Meetings

Intramural Basketball will have informational meetings on Thursday, Nov. 18th before school at 7:00am, and after school, at 2:35pm in C350. Registration will open on MyPaymentsPlus on Monday, Nov. 22nd, and remain open until Friday, December 17th. The cost is $100. Contact Mr. Pat Strey with any questions.

If you missed the EVHS Speech Team informational sessions, pick up information from Ms. Donais in C336 or Mr. Prax in C231. Audition help sessions will be held 11/10-11/12 in the C3 Cluster area after school.

NAHS meeting on Thursday 11/4, at 2:35-3:35pm in B126. New members welcome!

Climate Action Club will be meeting this Thursday 11/4 at 2:35 pm in C337. We will be working on our current action project – plastic sculpture to promote recycling.

Next week on Tuesday, Nov 9th, French Club will be meeting from 2:45 pm – 4:15 pm in room B220. There will be snacks and Francophone Culture Trivia.

FCCLA will have their next meeting on November 9th at 6:30 pm in C137. We will be having an amazing guest speaker and an end of the quarter pizza dinner. Sign up on the C138 wall and bring in $5.00 to participate in the pizza dinner. You can still join FCCLA this year. See Ms. Battistone in C138 or e-mail her at mia.battistone@district196.org
