Science Experiences!
This week, second graders across the district braved the elements to study the habitats of living things up at Miller Woods.
Thank you to the McMinnville Education Foundation for making these experiences possible!
Check it out! And see the MSD Facebook page for more photos.
Students use magnifiers in most of the study stations, including the forest walk.
Students learned about pollinators and how bees collect and spread pollen.
MHS Education Pathway students assist … and get first-hand teaching experience!
Duniway Team Building
Sixth graders at Duniway spent some time last week working on a series of rope-based challenges designed to create connections and a sense of teamwork. The better the team communicated and worked together, the faster they completed the challenge.
The event was designed to build a sense of community, a key component to academic success.

U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper Team Comes to Mac High
High school students interested in aerospace engineering or aviation were invited to attend a presentation this week by the U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper Demo team. The group is in town to perform at the Oregon International Airshow this weekend.
The presentation, attended by about 170 students, was led by Aimee “Rebel” Fiedler, demonstration pilot and team commander. Captain Fiedler, who got her degree in Aerospace Engineering prior to joining the Air Force, talked about the experience of flight, team dynamics and answered lots of questions from students.
Air Show Flyovers
As the air show participants arrived in town this week, students across the district were mesmerized by the flyovers. Jean Edwards, a staff member at Buel, captured the short video below and heard the following comments from the second graders:
- This is the best day of my life!
- I’ve never seen a jet like this before.
- Get out of their way, they are going to land on us!
- The aliens have arrived.
- One day when I grow up, do you think I can fly a jet?
- I know what I want to be when I get older.

A Simple Way to Plan for Your Child’s Future
MSD partners with the Oregon College Savings Plan to help families start thinking about life after high school -- beginning in kindergarten. The tax-deductible plan allows families to save for educational expenses like tuition and fees, books, computers, supplies, equipment and more. The plan isn’t just for four-year college attendance; students can use the funds for certificate programs, community college, apprenticeships, technical college, trade school and graduate school.
