A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 12/19/2021

Dear Central Road Families,

It is hard to believe this will be our last parent communication of 2021! As we move through this holiday season, we are reminded to take pause to enjoy the beauty of it. We live in a world where we have instant results, rapid fulfillment, and immediate gratification. Anything we want or need may essentially be at our fingertips...including knowledge. During winter break, we are reminded to slow down, take in the meaning of the season, cherish our family & friends, and feel the sense of community that joins us all together. We too take time and pause in helping those who may be less fortunate. Please know we are thinking of your families and sending positive thoughts during this time of year.

As we return back to school on Jan. 10th, we will be excited to welcome both students and staff. We will be jumping right back into our academic learning but also will take time to review school expectations in various areas of our building. We will be re-building and re-connecting with our classroom communities. 2022 will be a fun and successful year!

Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly communication. We are happy to connect together as a strong home-school connection is truly the key to success! Thank you to the families who donated gifts for the program. For families that need to pick up gifts, please stop by the office on either Monday, December 20th or Tuesday, December 21st, between 8:00am-4:30pm to pick up your gifts. If you cannot make it to the office during those hours, please email Mrs. Green to arrange an alternate pick up time.

Winter Assessment Information

Please add the CR 2022 Winter Assessment Quick Links for winter assessments.

We will begin winter assessments after break. Please see the information below that is specific to CR.

Fastbridge Benchmarking- January 11th-January 21st, all Kindergarten and 1st graders as well as any student who is currently in intervention.
ACCESS Testing- January 24th-February 4th, all ELL Students
CogAT Testing- February 7th- February 10th, students in 2nd & 4th grade who were found eligible for the placement testing

Staffing and Building Updates

Please note that our head custodian, Mr. Cortez, is joining our D15 Maintenance Department as of this week. We will miss seeing him around our school regularly but wish him all the best in his new promotion! We will welcome back Mr. Malagon, as our new head custodian as of December 20th. He is coming back to Central Road after a short time at Hunting Ridge School. Thank you for welcoming him to our amazing school!
Please join us in welcoming Tyler Pistorius as our additional grade 1 teacher. He will be working with both Mrs. Stiens and Mrs. Divizio's current grade 1 classrooms starting on Jan. 10, 2022. His extra help will be greatly appreciated!
Please also join us in welcoming Megan Butler as of Jan. 10, 2022. She will be replacing Mr. Pistorius as one of our full-time building subsitute teachers.
Lastly, please note that our Pre-School ECDEC classroom will be transitioning to Conyers Learning Academy as of Jan. 10th into one of their newer classrooms.

D15 Inclement Weather Plan

As the weather begins to become colder, we are writing to share District 15’s 2021-22 inclement weather plan with you. After much discussion, in the event we have significant inclement weather creating unsafe travel conditions or due to extreme cold, we will be utilizing an emergency weather day(s) which we have already built into the school calendar instead of shifting to virtual learning. Please visit the Emergency School Closure/Inclement Weather page of our website.
Should we need to call an emergency/inclement weather day due to hazardous weather conditions, we will notify families through email, text message, and phone calls via our Blackboard Communication system. The information will also be posted on our District and school websites, Facebook, Twitter, as well as the CCSD15 mobile app. Please be aware that if District 15 is closed for in-person learning due to inclement weather, unfortunately, we will not be offering meal deliveries.

Recess

As we head into December, students will continue to go outside to enjoy the fresh air and physical activity! Please kindly ensure your child(ren) has extra clothing (hats, gloves, warmer jackets) as needed for when going outside. Thank you!

THANK A CENTRAL ROAD STAFF MEMBER

Teachers in general love this time of year. Central Road teachers and staff members take the prospect of beginning a new year to a whole new level. They prepare their classrooms, plan lessons, organize schedules, review student records, and think about all of the possibilities the year ahead holds. As much as we recognize their efforts and successes here at school, nothing means more to a teacher or staff member than a kind word from a student or his/her family. As we get the year underway, I invite you to take notice of the things you see your child's teacher do, hear your child's teacher say, or the things you hear your child gush with excitement about related to their teacher. We've included this simple form for you to submit should you feel so inclined to do so. Children in full day school spend more of their waking day with their teacher than they do with their parents. We thank you for entrusting your child with us! This is going to be a great school year.

PTA Sponsored Talent Show UPDATE

More Acts Needed for the Talent Show! The talent show will be back in person this year, but we need more acts! Please encourage your child to sign up! Moving 15 Forward Community Meetings

As part of the Moving 15 Forward initiative, the District has scheduled community meetings at each of our schools. Central Road's visit is tentatively set for Wednesday, January 26th. During our meeting, an overview of the proposal will be presented, and specifics on proposed changes to our school will be shared. Additional information will be shared as we finalize plans, but we wanted to send a Save the Date in hopes all interested families can add the date to their calendar.

Health Office News 12-19-2021

As we are in the winter months, please continue to encourage good hand washing. Please also keep your child at home if he/she is feeling ill. We continue to work hard to keep our students learning in person at school each day and appreciate your support. Please note that COVID guidelines change often. We do our best to inform impacted families with the latest information as needed. Thank You

Shield Testing Update

Shield testing continues to take place one time a week at Central Road. Please send all SHIELD Opt-Ins/Outs to at SHIELD@ccsd15.net.

Our district began Test to Stay (T2S) Program on October 25th. We have ben working through the steps together if/when the need arises at Central Road. Thank you for reading our district's communication regarding this optional program.

Students continue to sit 3 feet away from peers masked while learning indoors. Mask wearing outdoors continues to remain optional for students and staff. We have recently adjusted our indoor eating/seating arrangements as best as possible to ensure students are closer to 6 feet apart when eating.
