OTTAWA AREA CENTER RECEIVES STATE RECOGNITION
Ottawa Area Center, a service of Ottawa Area ISD, recently earned the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Data Utilization award from Michigan's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MiMTSS) Technical Assistance Center for the 2022-23 school year for the collection and use of Behavior MTSS fidelity data to improve interventions and supports for OAC students.
MTSS is a comprehensive framework supporting instruction for a full range of learners from the struggling to the accelerated, utilizing intervention, assessment, staff selection and development, leadership, resource allocation, effective communication, and system processes and protocols. Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI) are part of this system.
“Ottawa Area Center is honored to receive this award and recognition for our efforts around Data Utilization within our School-Wide PBIS Multi-Tiered System of Supports,” Ottawa Area Center Director JoAnne Thorsen, said. “We pride ourselves on data-based decision-making to facilitate problem-solving and continuously improve our practices for student success.”
MTSS focuses on academic, behavioral, and social/emotional supports. By collecting and analyzing data, MTSS can identify specific areas needing improvement throughout the district, in an individual school or to help individual students.
The data is used to evaluate successes and areas of improvement using a multi-tiered system of support. From there it can be determined which additional interventions are needed for students who may need more support.
Ottawa Area Center is one of only 13 facilities recognized by the state for MTSS implementation and supports based upon evidence of fidelity and impact.

Community Mental Health at OAC
Wednesday, November 15, 2023 12:30pm-3:30pm
-CMH will have open office hours at OAC. This is an opportunity for parents to come in on an as needed basis to make connections and answer any questions you may have about the services they offer.
-Reminder this is CMH of Ottawa County and they only service residents of Ottawa County. If your student resides in a different county and needs information about CMH, they can connect your family with the CMH in that county.
-Please email Brenda if you would like to schedule a specific time for your family to meet with the CMH staff on November 15, 2023. bseymour@oaisd.org
- This is a great opportunity to discuss transition planning. Remember - much like we base transition services around student postsecondary goals and unmet needs, CMHOC also bases the services they provide on eligibility, the goals an individual has for their life and the unmet needs after exploring all options available.
CMH will be here the 3rd Wednesday of the month going forward.
**CMH of Ottawa County are services for residents of Ottawa County***
