PUSD COVID-19 UPDATE
Correction: links to register for the vaccine clinic now corrected.
We’re looking forward to welcoming students on the first day of school, Thursday, August 11, 2022. Although COVID-19 hospitalizations and transmission rates are currently considered high in LA County, there are indications that we may soon move to the CDC’s medium community level.
To ensure that students and employees stay safe and learning continues on campus, we are putting in place layers of measures and making important adjustments to the start of the school year. These measures may change once LA County moves to the CDC’s medium community level.
The following measures are now in place at all PUSD schools and facilities. We will revisit these in late August and make any changes depending on the COVID situation.
Stay home if you’re sick
In person gatherings All non-essential in person gatherings are either postponed or will be held virtually before and after the first day of school.
All meet-the-teacher events, back-to-school nights, staff-only meetings and large parent/guardian meetings (ELAC/AAPC/SSC/PTA/CAC, for example) will be held virtually.
Additional precautions will be taken when parents and students must be on campus for registration or to pick up books and Chromebooks to limit interactions and congregating. Please look for specifics from your school.
Essential volunteers and visitors are allowed on school campuses only after they have completed the appropriate application process.
Masks PUSD strongly recommends that students and employees wear masks. The Pasadena and LA County Health departments have not reissued a universal masking mandate but masks continue to be strongly recommended indoors. Masks are required:
on PUSD buses (with accommodations for students)
at testing and vaccination clinics
during field trips when required by the venue
for 10 days after exposure to COVID-19 and after a positive test result
Reentry testing Before arriving for the first day of school, PUSD is asking every student and employee to take an at-home rapid antigen test on August 10 or 11.
Where to get test kits: Pick up at your school/children’s center August 8, 9, or 10 to conduct testing at home. Check with your school for times. Test kits will also be available at the PUSD Education Center (351 S. Hudson Ave., Pasadena) August 8-10 between 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Results:
If a student tests negative, they are cleared to come to school on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
If a student tests positive, they must follow the steps below:
Stay at home and isolate for 10 days unless the individual meets the criteria to leave isolation before Day 10.
Report a positive test result to their school’s Nurse or Health Clerk via email or phone call. Please include the following information: First and Last name of student, Grade, Test result, Date test was taken.
COVID-positive students can leave isolation on Day 6 if they meet the following criteria:
- A COVID-19 viral test (PCR or rapid antigen) collected on Day 5 or later is negative; AND
- No fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine; AND
- Other symptoms are significantly improved and resolving
For students and staff who are currently experiencing symptoms, the District Clinic is open for PCR testing available Monday - Friday 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Get Vaccinated! Getting vaccinated and boosted is still the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 to prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and death. PUSD is holding vaccination clinics!

Ventilation Air purifiers are in place in classrooms and indoor common areas. Filters were changed over the summer, and all lead custodians were trained on how to change both carbon and HEPA filters.
Personal Protective Equipment Masks and hand sanitizer are in stock and available to students and staff
All these measures are in place to keep PUSD students learning in-person in the classroom. We hope that by being proactive now, our schools can move to less restrictive measures as the school year progresses.
We’ll revisit the most current data the week of August 22 and make any adjustments as needed.
Thank you for all that you have done since the early days of the pandemic to keep our students, employees, and community healthy and safe.
