Eastview WIN Time on Wednesday Afternoons in the Learning Commons
Starting Wednesday, November 1st, students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). BOYS HOCKEY
Boys Varsity Hockey Team Wins Third Straight Conference Game
Senior Forwards Caleb Nelson and Zach Wooten, and Sophomore Forward Sam Wooten, scored goals to lead the boys varsity hockey team over Apple Valley/Burnsville 3-2 on Saturday, January 13. The Lightning got a reminder of just how difficult it can be to win this time of year in the South Suburban Conference. A determined last-place Apple Valley/Burnsville squad kept Eastview (second in the conference at 7-2) in check for much of the game. Eastview outshot Apple Valley/Burnsville 33-13 but could not put the game safely out of reach until the final horn.
Zach Wooten got things started for Eastview in the first period, scoring an even-strength goal with an assist from Sam Wooten. Apple Valley/Burnsville scored later in the first. Sam Wooten scored on a Lightning power play at 8:47 of the second, with assists by Zach Wooten and Senior Forward Jordan Brothers. But within a minute, Apple Valley/Burnsville tied the game again.
Nelson scored 25 seconds into the third period, taking a pass from Senior Defenseman Brayden Kaldenbach and lasering home what proved to be the game winner from the left circle. The Lightning play a nonconference game against Cretin Derham Hall on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.
The JV Boys Hockey Team played Lakeville North last Tuesday night (1/9). Ty Young looked sharp in the net and faced 23 shots. The team played hard but lost a heartbreaker. Lakeville North took the lead in the first period. The JV Boys answered back in the second period with a goal from Austin Dwyer and an assist from Liam O’Donnell. The score remained 1 to 1 until the last 15 seconds of the game when Lakeville North got the go-ahead goal to win 2 to 1.
On Saturday (1/13), the JV Boys Hockey Team played a great game against Apple Valley/Burnsville. Apple Valley/Burnsville took the lead in the first period on a power play but the JV team answered back in the 2nd period. Wesley Schoenwetter scored for Eastview with an assist from Mason Gillis making it 1 to 1. Eastview was busy in the 3rd period with another goal from Wesley Schoenwetter. This time with an assist from Kyle Benolken. Cal Fritche also scored with an assist from Cameron Dufault. Apple Valley/Burnsville got one more goal, but Cameron Dufault sealed the win with an empty net goal. Sawyer Haagenson and Wesley Schoenwetter got the assists. Zach Wakefield played great in the net and faced 38 shots. The JV Boys won 4 to 2. They play today at 5pm, taking on Cretin-Derham Hall at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.
