Storm Shelters: Volunteers Needed
Four Trussville City Schools campuses (Cahaba, Magnolia, Paine, and HTMS) all serve as community-wide storm shelters when severe weather strikes outside of school hours. Currently TCS employees staff the shelters, yet we welcome community volunteers to help us open, staff, and close the shelters when severe weather threatens Trussville. If you are interested in training to become a TCS Storm Shelter Volunteer, please contact TCS Public Relations Supervisor Jason Gaston at the TCS Board of Education: 205-228-3000.

Cahaba Math Team Places Among Top 5 in National Competition
Cahaba Elementary School's 5th Grade Math Team fielded three (virtual) math teams in the recent Perennial Math Competition. Cahaba's teams competed with 5th and 6th grade teams from around the country and one Cahaba team finished in 4th Place. In online competitions, the first team to enter the correct answer gets to choose the next question category such as Computation, Ratios, and Money from a Jeopardy-style board, and teams with correct answers receive points based on how quickly they were able to solve the problems. Cahaba's Math Teams practice each Wednesday and compete again this coming May.

Senior Engineering Students Showcase Innovation
Senior HTHS Engineering Academy students crafted some incredibly innovative inventions that were recently showcased at the (virtual) 2021 UAB Central AL Science & Engineering Fair. Students began the school year by brainstorming hundreds of problems in order to create life-improving solutions. The students did an incredible job this year of creating their final working prototypes. When you read through these design descriptions, you may wonder why these solutions have not already been invented. These students have worked extremely hard, spending countless hours researching, designing, 3D modeling, programming, building, and troubleshooting their solutions. This group of students exhibited hard work, dedication, and exceptional problem-solving skills.
