BCHS PRIDE "Be Classy" Students of the Month
At BCHS we use "Be Classy" cards to recognize students for demonstrating positive BC PRIDE behaviors on campus: being prepared, being respectful, having integrity, being disciplined, and ensuring everyone is united!
When a staff member sees a student following the monthly goal OR a student who is going above and beyond, the staff member can give the student a "Be Classy" card to recognize their positive behavior. Students then fill it out and put it in the box in the student lobby by Ms. Susie's desk.
Each month, we draw 10 winners.September Goal: Having “R” respect for the restroom and the other people who use the restroom. We use the restroom for its intended purpose while also keeping it clean so all members have access and feel safe.
September Winners are:
Jacob Spencer
Azriel Burelson
Aiden Leibundgut
Eloise Silva
Emma Lou Rankin
Jase Heller
Anders Satterblom
Andie Frost
Adrian Blonco
Tanner Croteau
October Goal: How are you showing that you are “P”repared for school each day?
Is your iPad charged on a daily basis and do you have the required school supplies? Are you using the restroom at the appropriate times and using it in the way it is intended? Are you arriving to class on time before the bell, so that you are prepared to learn? Are you preparing for your practices so that you can succeed in your game? This is the same with your school work. Are you preparing during the learning so you can prove your knowledge on the assessment?
BCHS National Merit Semi-Finalist: Aiden Thatcher!
We are so proud to announce that we have a National Merit Semi-Finalist! Aiden Thatcher scored in the top 16,000 students of all of the fall of 2022 3.8 million PSAT test takers nationally! That is the top .4% in the nation! Aiden will continue with the application process for the National Merit Scholarship! Congratulations, Aiden! We are so proud of you!
Senior Sunrise
Senior Sunrise is an annual tradition that promotes a sense of unity and excitement among our Boulder Creek High School seniors. The event is organized by our Student Government as a way to bring seniors together with their classmates and as a way to commemorate the beginning of their senior year journey.
On Friday, September 15th, excitement filled the air as our seniors arrived on campus wearing their BC Jaguar spirit gear just before the sun came up. As they gathered on the football field waiting for the sun to rise, they laughed, shared memories, and reflected on their accomplishments while anticipating what the future will bring. Then seniors watched the sun rise above the beautiful mountains in the eastern skies of Boulder Creek.
Ultimately, Senior Sunrise is more than watching the sun rise; it is about the experiences they have shared with the classmates they have walked alongside during their time at Boulder Creek. Senior Sunrise is a BCHS tradition that captures and celebrates the essence of that journey and embodies the spirit of togetherness that is Boulder Creek. The future is bright and full of potential, and we wish all of our BC Jaguar seniors a great start to their year!

Fall Sports Update
Badminton
The BC Girls Badminton is having an awesome season this year. Their hard work and dedication is paying off as they improve each week. They have received several compliments from other coaches about their sportsmanship, respect and overall P.R.I.D.E. We are beyond proud of these girls.
BCXC
The cross country team has been focused on deliberate practice this season. They have been working together every practice to do What's Important Now (WIN) and their hard work is already paying off. Last week 32 runners ran their new personal records and several runners are now in the top 10 all time for Boulder Creek. This is a great group of young people that are developing into the strongest teams (boys and girls) that we have had here at BC.
BCVB
As varsity girls volleyball enters section play we stand at 11 wins over all and four losses with a big tournament at ASU this Friday and Saturday. We are hoping to finish well!
BC Swim & Dive
BC Football
The Boulder Creek Football Program has started the season playing one of the toughest schedules in Division 6A. Although it was a rough start, all three levels beat bordering rival, Cactus Shadows, last week. BC played really well at each level and we hope to continue our winning ways this week as we host the Centennial Coyotes. We are now half way through the season and we will begin region play next week as we travel to, district rival, Mountain Ridge.
Spiritline
Spiritline completed their Junior Jags clinic Saturday 9/16 and the Junior Jags will performed Friday 9/22 at the home football game against Centennial High School.
Both Cheer and Pom completed their competition choreography this month and are excited for their first competition in November!
Men's and Women's Golf
Mens Golf - BC is currently 20th in the state rankings, which puts us close to making state as a team. As for individuals Blake Eddy and Daniel Thomas both have a great chance at making the top 18.

Students Get Support During Flex!
Flex Time Intervention sessions provide time for students to receive support every Thursday during the instructional day. The purpose of this time is to allow a struggling student some extra time in a smaller group setting to learn the skills they may be struggling with during class time. There are also opportunities for students to enrich their learning if they are doing well in all of their classes.
Each week, a student may be assigned to a specific skill-based Flex Time session by one of their teachers. Our students’ academic success is important; therefore, it is an expectation that students attend the Flex session they are assigned to by their teacher. If a student is not assigned to a session, they may select a session for academic support, time to complete schoolwork, or to extend their learning in a class.
Flex time is academic time built into the regular school day for students to participate in sessions such as:
● Interventions and tutoring on specific skills
● Extension and enrichment
● Skill assessment and reassessment
● Life skills/college and career readiness
● Open academic sessions
Flex Time can help students achieve academic success in the following ways:
● Increased understanding of the concepts taught in your classes.
● A time to catch up in classes you were absent for.
● Opportunity to participate in extension or enrichment activities to expand learning.
● Grade improvement.
● Improved performance on tests such as AP, SAT, ACT.
● Opportunity to increase your college and career readiness.
● Overall increase in academic achievement.
BCHS Flex Time provides a great opportunity for students to get extra support to increase academic achievement and success, and to help prepare them for the future. Please visit the Boulder Creek High School website for the Flex Bell Schedule.
BCHS Collaborative Team Spotlight: Algebra 1-2
Our Algebra 1-2 collaborative team is dedicated to building foundational math skills for our freshmen math students at BCHS. Ms. Leovic, Ms. McKernan, Mr. Chang, Ms. Burch, and Ms. Mitchell work together during the 90 minute early releases on Fridays to review student learning data, pace and design lessons, and also to share teaching strategies and supports to help students learn Algebra 1-2.
The Algebra 1-2 team most recently worked together to review student learning data on identified essential skills from their first two units. These conversations help the team design supports and teaching strategies to help student learn. Team data shows that over 90% of students met their first two standards!

Mr. Baxley, Mr. Jordan, and Mrs. Baldwin were recognized by the DVUSD Governing Board for their recognition by ASU Helios as inaugural members of the Impact Corps for their work in supporting post-secondary success of BCHS Engineering students! Congratulations!
What is the BCHS Guiding Coalition??
The BCHS Guiding Coalition works to review data and set campus goals to support a positive campus culture and growth in student learning and success. The mission of the BCHS GC is "raising proficiency for all students through communication, flexibility, positive collaboration, and strategic, data-driven planning." This year the team has reviewed state assessment data, PLC team data, and school survey data from students, parents, and staff. This information has led to the team to focus on increasing state assessment proficiency, increasing student sense of belonging, increasing collaborative team skills, and on supporting all BCHS student's ability to demonstrate proficiency on 12 identified essential standards/skills in each class.
Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!
BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.
- This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
- Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
- It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
- We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.
Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook . Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
