June 2023
LISD Families,
Happy summer! I hope you’re enjoying extra time with your loved ones during this summer break. It was such a privilege to celebrate the Class of 2023 at graduations with so many of you. We are so proud of each of our graduates!
In this newsletter we’ve put together a few summer resources for families. Keep reading to find information on summer camps, meal resources, device repair, our Back-to-School Fair and more. We’re also enrolling for the 2023-24 school year, and we hope you’ll help us spread the word to any future LISD families.
Speaking of spreading the word, I want to provide an update on the most recent legislative session. As you know, our district has been vocal about the need for an increase to the Basic Allotment because it is the main way public schools are funded. Unfortunately, the 88th Legislative Session ended with no increase to the Basic Allotment.
I shared an update with the Board of Trustees at Monday night’s meeting about the outcomes of the Legislative session, which you can read more about below. Advocating for Texas public schools is more important than ever, and we pledge to keep our LISD community informed on our legislative priorities and advocacy efforts moving forward.
We are so excited about the progress of our One Vision Task Force, who is hard at work considering projects and needs across our district for a possible bond referendum. Keep reading for an update from their most recent meeting, and remember to subscribe to our Bond Updates newsletter so you can read their updates directly from your inbox.
Enjoy your break, and thank you for your continued support of LISD!
Dr. Lori Rapp, Ed.D.

Legislative Update
At Monday night’s board meeting, Dr. Rapp gave an update regarding the conclusion of the 88th Legislative Session, and how Texas public schools fared as a result.
We know that advocating is a marathon, not a sprint. We are so proud of the 3,500 letters submitted to our legislators by our LISD community, but as you can see, our work is not over. Continue to stay informed about our priorities, and the results of our efforts, by visiting LISD.net/Legislative.

Monster Masterpieces at Prairie Trail ES & Marcus HS
Prairie Trail ES and Marcus HS students aren’t scared of monsters. In fact, they worked together to bring monsters to life! Earlier this school year, Prairie Trail art teacher Katrina Bartel gave an assignment to her first grade students - “to draw monsters of all shapes, sizes, and silliness.” Her students did just that, using colors and shapes to bring their imaginary creatures to life.
