HONORING OUR VETERANS
Members of the Mount Laurel Hartford School Student Council and students from Mr. Devery's homeroom made Memorial Day cards, which were delivered By Mr. Deverly (left) to VFW Post 7677 in Medford. Post Commander and Retired Colonel, Mark Preston (center), and other veterans gratefully accepted the cards.
MAYOR STEGLIK VISITS HMS
Mount Laurel Township Mayor, Stephen Steglik visited Mr. Sides' Social Studies classes at HMS as part of their civics course. Students had written the mayor letters, both thanking him for all that he has done for Mount Laurel, as well as sharing some of their own ideas regarding actionable items that they would like to see become a reality. Some of their ideas included town-wide access to wifi, improvements to the town library, and increased access to buses during the school day for field trips.
This was such a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate just how important student voices are and how anyone can make an impact in their community; no matter their age.
BRINGING HISTORY TO LIFE
Through the efforts of teacher, Ms. Amy McKeever, Mount Laurel Hartford School welcomed Holocaust Survivor, Mrs. Alice Kraus, to speak to over 100 sixth grade students. Mrs. Kraus and her husband Ernest, residents of West Deptford, NJ, brought many items from her past and immersed students in her stories. Students had the opportunity to ask questions.
During the month of June, three more Holocaust Survivors, and children of Holocaust Survivors, will be visiting Mount Laurel Hartford School to share their harrowing and impactful stories.
