It's already time to start thinking about the 2024-25 school year! OPS partners with a variety of community organizations to offer students scholarship opportunities, learn skills, and connect with resources before, during, and after school. Go over these programs with your students and discuss which programs would be a good fit!
8th grade students have begun considering their options for high school selection. They used the Find My School link to identify options for next year and were given an informational booklet on the Pathways offered for each high school. High school open houses begin in January so please have conversations with your students regarding schools and programs they are interested in learning about. Open house dates and times can be found here.
6th grade families, we are working through an influx of incidents and conversations with students and families regarding conflicts and posts on social media. In response, along with supporting students individually, we visited all 6th grade social studies classrooms and taught a lesson regarding who they choose to be on social media. Please encourage students to block/report accounts and conversations that include threats or make them feel uncomfortable/unsafe. As you are having conversations with your students about using social media appropriately, use these four tips as a guide.
As another support, we are so excited to be partnering with Omaha-based nonprofit, Smart Gen Society for a FREE workshop on how to keep your students safe online. Topics discussed will include how to communicate with your students about online safety and ways to protect their safety, your family's privacy, and mental health. Save the date for two session opportunities during spring conferences. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 6th at 5pm or Thursday, March 7th at 2pm right here at King Science Middle School!
