Please fill out our membership form and also let us know if you're interested in roles like volunteering during events or serving on a committee. Uniform and Swag Sale - Friday, Sept. 1, After School
The PTA will be hosting another uniform sale this Friday during afternoon dismissal. Look for the tables on the blacktop! Gently-used shirts are $1 each and bottoms and dresses are $2 each. We will also be selling new J.O. swag (logo t-shirts and hoodies).
Cardinal Kiss and Go Reminder
Outdoor Movie Night - Friday, Sept. 8
Playground gates will open at 5:45 p.m., and the movie will start at 7:15 p.m. Closed captions will be provided. Refreshments (pizza, popcorn, snacks and drinks) will be available for purchase. This event is open to all; please help spread the word to friends and neighbors.
We would like your input on the movie selection! Please vote for the movie you (and your kids) want to watch!
To make this event a success, we need volunteers to assist with set-up, concessions and clean-up. If you can help, please sign up here.
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is aimed to inspire our girls to build confidence and make intentional decisions, while fostering care and compassion for self and others. Coaches will work with the girls and use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills in every girl while encouraging them to build healthy habits for life. Any student who identifies as a girl in grades 3-5 is welcome to join the team.
Mondays and Thursdays 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Kids Ride Free
The Kids Ride Free (KRF) program allows students to ride for free on Metrobus, Metrorail, and the DC Circulator while traveling within the District. Students can request new 2023-2024 KRF SmarTrip cards from Ms. Sutton-Stephenson at talisa.sutton-stephenson@k12.dc.gov. School Year 2022-2023 Kids Ride Free SmarTrip cards will remain valid through Sept. 30, 2023.
Hill Family Biking Back-to-School Ride
Hill Family Biking is having a Back to School Ride on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The ride will start at Maury and end at the Watkins' splash pad and field. All are welcome to join the ride. To help with planning, riders are encouraged to register here.
Student Assignment and Boundary Study Town Hall Meetings
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) is conducting a Boundary and Student Assignment Study ("Boundary Study") to review DC Public School (DCPS) boundaries and feeder patterns and District-wide public school student assignment policies. The Boundary Study will develop recommendations based on analytic findings and public input, while affirmatively advancing racial and socioeconomic equity in public schools in Washington, DC. At the town hall meetings, participants will review the DCPS boundaries and student assignment analysis, provide feedback on potential policy tools, and receive an introduction to the online web tool. American Youth Chorus
After a few year's hiatus, the American Youth Chorus which is sponsored by the Congressional Chorus, is back! The chorus is for grades 3-8 . You can check out their last concert and info about their new vision at www.AmericanYouthChorus.org
