2. MCH Faculty Featured in UMN News for Research
This UMN news release shares key insights found in Rachel Hardeman’s research. Specifically, her study found that when Black infants were cared for by Black physicians, their mortality rates dropped by one third.
3. Student Spotlight: How Did Madigan Knuth Help Provide Community Recommendations for Title V Grant Priorities?
Madigan shares how her work on strategy reviews of data briefs for the Minnesota Department of Health informed recommendations for community members.
4. Student Spotlight: How Did Morgan Collins and Lexie Adams use Quantitative and Qualitative Data to Understand the Needs of Hennepin County Residents?
In this combined Student Spotlight, Morgan and Lexie describe their deployment work with Hennepin County. Lexie analyzed and communicated MN Student Survey results and Morgan conducted interviews on WIC enrollment and retention barriers.

Deanna from Drexel University’s Maternal and Child Health Catalyst Program and Stephanie from the University of Illinois Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health describe how their work on a needs assessment at the Pennsylvania Department of Health can inform future policy and program planning.

7. Well-being of Parents and Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A National Survey
This survey evaluated how parents and children have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Results show about ¼ of parents had a decrease in mental health and 14% of children declined in behavioral health since March 2020. Additionally, about 10% of families reported food insecurity since March 2020.

8. National Prenatal To Three Research Policy Summit: Building a State Policy Roadmap to Strengthen the Earliest Years

This summit will bring the early childhood field together to: learn about the newest findings on the science of the developing child, discuss how policy choices can lead to or reduce racial disparities, launch the 2020 Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap, and hear from state leaders about using the evidence-driven roadmap to strengthen prenatal-to-3 systems of care in their state.
