Issue 2 is here for you! As we prepare for the first day of school on Thursday, we have lots of information to share. Each week we change the background picture to highlight something that has happened over the past week. This week's picture comes from our Class of 2020 Graduation. If you are new to Tustin Connect or a veteran, I encourage you to take a few minutes each week to review this newsletter. There are headers so you can scan the information for quick review. It is our primary communication tool with families and one that we rely on. So please make it part of your weekend routine. K-12 Device Distribution

This year, all students in grades K-12 will receive a TUSD issued device if they choose to. K-8 will receive iPads and 9-12 students will receive Surface Pros. Here's the schedule and dates. If you received a device last year, you will continue to use that device but for iPad users will need to complete a reset outlined in this video in order to use it this year.

ACTION ITEM: Online Data Confirmation

All families returning to TUSD must complete a Data Confirmation. It's quick and easy and way better than the first day packets that resulted in hours of writing your name, address, and signature on multiple documents. The process is done through your TUSD Parent Portal account and requires your parent login. The process will include the opportunity to review/change contact information, select appropriate student authorizations, and review updated district materials. You also need the confirmation page completed at the end of the process to pick up your device.

Master Agreements

All students and families are required to complete an Annual Master Agreement as the final part of the registration process prior to the first day of school. The Master Agreement is required before any instruction can begin. Our teachers are working to set those meetings up. Meetings will occur over the next few weeks prior to the first day of school August 13th. If you have not done so already, K-8 parents can use the links below to start the process for scheduling your master agreements. High School parents will be contacted starting 8/10.

HS: Teachers have been reaching out to families directly for our new Tustin Connect Students.

Three New Mavericks Join the Family This Week...

In addition to Mrs. Maeda, we have added 3 new teachers to the Maverick family. A big Maverick welcome to Ms. Paulson who comes to us from Orchard Hills where she'll be teaming up with Mrs. Dove to support our Middle School students as the 6th grade and part of 7th-grade teacher. We also welcome Ms. Myhra and Ms. Mercuri to Tustin Connect. Both come to us from Heideman Elementary with a wealth of experience and expertise. Ms. Myhra has taught multiple grades throughout her career and will be working with our 4th graders this year. Ms. Mercuri is an experienced kindergarten teacher and we are excited to have all three of these new Mavericks onboard and look forward to their positive impact on our Tustin Connect Family. We have one more open position on the Maverick staff at our high school. The position closes this coming week and we will be working closely with personnel to add an outstanding educator to our high school team.

Virtual Senior Graduation

On Thursday, August 6th at 6pm we celebrated the Class of 2020 with a special Virtual Graduation! Although it was not the in-person celebration we had all hoped for, we were excited to celebrate them and send our virtual congratulations to them all. TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan

The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.


Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.


For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.


The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers ​the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
