Weathering the Heat
We are going to utilize an early release schedule on Monday so students can leave before the building heats up. We will also provide extra opportunities for mask breaks.
We encourage students to bring a water bottle filled with ice. CMS now has bottle filling stations on both floors for refilling. We will encourage students to stay hydrated throughout the day.
This week's extreme heat is just another challenge to overcome in a year where we had to weather pandemic, remote learning, hybrid learning, social distancing, and quarantining. We'll get through this too!

Calling All 8th Grade Parents and Guardians
To celebrate the end of this successful but challenging school year, the 8th grade team will be holding an end of year celebration during the school day on Tuesday, June 22nd. We will have a rain date of Monday the 21st which if needed will be decided before the end of school day Friday the 18th.
At the event, we will have a variety of outdoor stations and activities for the students. It is important that students dress for the weather, wear sunblock, and bring their own water bottle to fill from ice water coolers that are provided. A BBQ lunch will be provided by the cafeteria, but we are asking that families provide supplemental food and drinks. Please visit this SignupGenius to volunteer to provide some of these items. Items can be dropped off at the Middle School office any time during the week but preferably before Thursday, June 17th. Thank you so much for the support you have shown your students, teachers, and school this year!

Cohasset “Volunteers for Volleyball” Hit it BIG!
W🏐W!! My most heartfelt thanks for a job well done!! Between the 35+ Volunteers assigned to court set-up on Wednesday, and the additional 30+ on Sunday, we exceeded our goal of 24 courts. When everyone was already tired and hungry late Sunday night, this team dug-deep as we were offered a BIG bonus for breaking down an additional 2 courts, the LAST 2 in the whole Convention Center!! The incremental payout for those 2 courts alone was $2,500!! Little did I know how much I was asking of these volunteers before this event began!!
So, on the shoulders of this mighty group of hard-working volunteers, $10,000 was raised toward our goal to have a volleyball club team!! And, although it is looking likely that we will have a team in the Fall of 2021 we have more funds to raise to reach our required $15,000!!
Please consider donating to the extent your circumstances allow on our GoFundMe page. And, I appreciate you sharing this on your social media sites and with those you know who might be interested in supporting the effort. gf.me/u/ztv5gh
Spread the word: Volleyball hits Cohasset in the Fall of 2021!!

New Guidance Relaxes Mask Wearing Requirements Outdoors
At an emergency Cohasset School Committee Meeting that took place Tuesday afternoon, the Cohasset School Committee voted to suspend the face covering policy in so much as it conflicts with the relaxed guidance regarding the wearing of masks and face coverings by students that was sent out yesterday by Governor Baker and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and today by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). Effective Tuesday, May 17, the school committee vote rescinds the requirement for students in grades PK- 12 to wear masks / face coverings outdoors, including in outdoor physical education classes, in outdoor learning environments, and during recess. The vote also allows all students playing a spring sport that takes place outdoors to play and practice without a mask or face covering. In short, students no longer have to wear masks outdoors, even if distance cannot be maintained. Students can still maintain wearing a mask / face covering outdoors if they wish to do so. It is important to note that, at this time, all adults and students must continue to wear masks inside all school buildings and on the bus.
Operationally, we are immediately also following the guidance regarding shared materials, and we will be lifting the gathering limits for school activities (when applicable) beginning on May 29, 2021, as advised. However, we will continue our current successful cleaning routines and practices throughout the remainder of the school year. Here is the DESE Frequently Asked Question Document, which highlights the change in guidance that impact schools.

FDA and CDC Approve Vaccinations for Adolescents 12 - 15
Recently, the FDA and the CDC approved vaccination of individuals 12 - 15 to join the other ages previously approved to receive vaccination for COVID-19. We have contacted the Marshfield Fair Grounds vaccination site to reserve a block of appointments for Cohasset students who fall into this age bracket, and we will inform you when we have more information. Walk-in appointments are also available at some vaccination sites.
It is important to realize that fully vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine if they are close contacts. If your child has been vaccinated for COVID-19 we request that you notify your school nurse, so they are aware in the event of any possible close contact situations. Information regarding vaccinations, including how to sign up for a vaccine, can be found here

About the Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition
Since July 2014, Safe Harbor Cohasset has been working to promote awareness and implement resources to help make an impact on the substance use in the community. Chinese philosopher Sun Tzu observed "In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity."
These are certainly difficult times and many parents and families are experiencing great stress. Our ability to cope is regularly challenged and, understandably, there may be times when individuals can no longer manage their emotions. It is important to know where to turn when we reach that point.
To help our families, we share this contact list of support providers--Mental Health and Crisis Contacts These support providers offer great opportunities to help receive help when those we love are struggling to manage.
