A Note From the Nurse
On October 4th and 5th, MSU students will be coming to assist me with Vision Screenings at South Elementary. All students will have their vision screened. We will use a Spot Screener to test the students, which is a hand held ocular screening device designed to help quickly and easily detect vision problems. This device is used like a camera and will take a picture of the student's eyes. If there are abnormal results, I will send the results home with the student within a few weeks which will recommend a full exam with an eye doctor. Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Portrait of a Graduate
Throughout the year, South focuses on nine character traits that we want all students in Ozark Public Schools to have mastered by the time they graduate. Each month we focus on one of the Portrait of a Graduate words. Classroom teachers nominate one student from their class who best exhibits that character trait. South then recognizes those students with an all-school assembly in which their parents are invited to attend. Out of the twenty-eight students nominated, one student is chosen as "Top Tiger" and is recognized at the monthly Ozark School board meeting for going above and beyond displaying the character trait.
South Updates
Community “Family” Time
We had an incredible turn out for our Grandparents/Grandfriends celebration last week with over 540 grandparents visiting our building! We appreciate everyone who visited South!
Each grade level will continue to experience family time on their assigned day. This will be part of their weekly routine. Just a reminder, this time is for students and teachers "grade level families." The schedule will continue as follows:
Day 1 - Fourth Grade
Day 2 - Third Grade
Day 3 - Second Grade
Day 4 - First Grade
Day 5 - Kindergarten

Wellness Information for Birthdays & Celebrations
Attention Parents:
We know you want to celebrate your child’s birthday, and we want to celebrate with you! However, this year any food provided for students outside of the meal programs must also meet federal nutrition guidelines. That means any food brought into the classroom for celebrations, parties, and snack time must meet the guidelines.
Here is a list of nutritional snacks that can be used for classroom celebrations - https://bit.ly/3Em5uib
We appreciate your help in following our district wellness plan for our students. You may also consider a non-food alternative to celebrate a birthday, such as stickers, pencils, bubbles, sidewalk chalk etc. Providing a non-food item helps our students who have dietary restrictions feel included.
