SEPTEMBER 2023
A Note From the Principal
Our 2023-2024 school year is off to a fabulous start! Our faculty and staff have been preparing all summer for our students. Our school is alive with positive energy and excitement! We appreciate the ongoing support from our Wabash Community.
This year we will continue to focus on The Wabash Way - Being Respectful, Responsible, Caring and Safe! Please discuss these important character traits with your children. Our students are excited to show excellence on a daily basis. I am proud to report that our students are striving for excellence. Together, teachers and parents will challenge our students to work to their full potential. I know our students are up to the challenge!
This year, our Wentzville School District schools will begin the process of implementing the Leader in Me program. We are excited to have this program as a part of what we do! Our faculty and staff is taking part in ongoing training sessions. We hope to start to share some of the Leader in Me lessons and activities in mid to late October this year. Here is some added information about Leader in Me.
Throughout the duration of this academic school year, the Wentzville School District partners with community agencies that specialize in providing students, families, and educators with preventative education. Agency presenters are credentialed, coordinated through the District, and under the supervision of building administrators. Presentation topics are targeted toward specific grade levels. All of the students will participate in each program, unless you choose to opt your child out of the lesson(s). If you would like further details and/or are interested in opting your student(s) out of presentation(s), please click this link here.
I have just a few other reminders to share with everyone:
1) Students should not have their cell phones on their person while on campus. All cell phones should be in bookbags. Cell phones and smart watches should not be creating disturbances in our classrooms.
2) Please remember that staff are not on outside duty until 8:20 am. Students should not be dropped off or released from cars without a parent until staff are outside at their stations at 8:20 am.
3) For students who walk or ride bikes/scooters to school, please help them set an appropriate time to leave the house in the morning. Students should not get to the main crosswalk until AFTER 8:20 am. The main crosswalk on Golden Gate is unsupervised prior to 8:20 am.
4) During dismissal time for car riders on our front drive, please take time to build as much independence as possible with the loading process. If you need added time to buckle up car seats and such, please pull forward in line in front of the big gym to do so. This will allow for more cars to pull up along the front sidewalk for loading.
5) Annually, we take part in school wide drills for fire, tornados, earthquakes, and intruders. Our Wentzville School District does provide some parent tips regarding how to talk to your child(ren) about intruder drills. Safety remains our #1 priority at Wabash!
6) Please take time to write your child(s) first and last name on the following items: lunch boxes, water bottles, hats, jackets, coats, and anything else they are at risk of losing. Our lost and found is often full of items. If items have names on them, we are quick to return them to their owners.
Please remember that Mrs. Naumann, Mrs. Polman and I are always available to support you and your children. Please do not hesitate to stop in, call or email us with any questions or concerns. We are here for your children.
Go Ducks!

Congratulations to all of our Wabash Summer BINGO readers! We had over 140 students complete the Reading BINGO challenge this summer. Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Reinker are proud of all of our readers and we loved getting prizes to you! Keep up the great reading all year long!
Please help your student get used to their new library schedule so they can make sure they are returning library books on time. Your student has library every 5 days of school. Please also help your child take care of their library books by keeping them away from food, drinks, leaking water bottles, dogs, and younger siblings who don't know how to take are of library books yet.
Thank you for your support of our Wabash Library!
Welcome back to a new school year! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. Reach out to one of us for any academic or behavioral concerns you may have. Together we make up the Student Support Team!

GEORGE ANAGNOS - SCHOOL SUPPORT INTERVENTIONIST (SSI)
Hello Wabash friends and families! I’m excited for our new school year. If you’re new to Wabash, my name is George Anagnos and it’s my pleasure to continue as the School Support Interventionist for Wabash Elementary. This is the start of my 5th school year as the School Support Interventionist (SSI) at Wabash. In this position, I partner with staff, parents and students to assist them with plans, supports and interventions relating to social-emotional and behavioral interventions. I will be in your student’s classes throughout the school days, helping and assisting and planning to help them feel as safe and successful as possible. If you have any questions for me, or if you have any information which could help me in supporting your student, please reach out at: georgeanagnos@wsdr4.org. Thank you!
STAY HEALTHY THIS YEAR!
DEFINITELY keep your child at home for treatment and observation with these symptoms:
● Fever/Chills (greater than 100 degrees by mouth - Keep home for 24 hrs after fever free without the use of medications

● Diarrhea
● General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
● Congested (wet) or croupy cough or constant cough that is disruptive
● Eye is red or crusty - If diagnosed with pink eye may return after 24 hrs on antibiotic drops
To help prevent the spread of germs, teach your children good hygiene habits:
● Wash hands frequently - after using the restroom and before eating
● Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
● Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, Coughing or sneezing into their bent elbow, not their hands.
● Avoid close contact with people who are sick
READING INTERVENTION SCREENING
Students may be screened by a reading interventionist in the upcoming weeks. This does not mean they will be in reading intervention. If your child is offered a spot in the WBE reading program, your child's teacher will make you aware of the opportunity with a personal phone call or email in the upcoming weeks. Just a reminder--If your child received services last year, that does not guarantee a place in the program this year. It is a year by year process.
In order to stay safe and participate in all PE activities, please remember that students must wear tennis shoes on PE days. Crocs, sandals, boots, flip flops, etc. are not safe to wear for our lessons.
Thank you - the Wabash PE Team
