Message from the Principal...

It has been a good start at Gaylord Middle School. Everyone seems to be enjoying the new chromebooks and are doing a nice job bringing them to school charged. Our math and language arts teachers are available every morning before school at 7:30 for tutoring. Students are able to go to the media center in the morning or you may reach out to your child's ELA or math teacher. We have several new teachers at the middle school this year. I would like to take the next few months to introduce them.

Mrs. Jennie Boike - Teaching PE & Health

Background and Teaching Experience:

Grew up in Holt, MI
Graduated from Central Michigan University with my BS in Physical Education and Health Education
This is my 11th year teaching

1st Year at Gaylord Middle School
10 Years at Holt High School

I have taught Physical Education, 7th & 8th grade and High School Health & Advanced Health and Fitness

My Family:

Drew and I have been married for 9 years. We have 2 kids:
Nash (5) - Fischer (2) and a Fur Baby (Golden Retriever) Tula (3.5)
Nash has started his first year at school at South Maple Elementary School as a Kindergartener. Fischer has started his first year at daycare and LOVES it!

Teaching Philosophy:

I look forward to coming to work each day! I love what I do, I look at my job as a way to introduce new ways of thinking about health and fitness. I want the students to learn new and exciting ways to get up and active and to think about how this can impact them positively physically, mentally, and socially.

GMS Office Procedures

Attendance: If your child is absent from school, please call the school at 989-731-0848 as early as possible in the morning. We will be answering our phones as early as 7:00 a.m., but if you have a touch tone phone you may leave a message for the Middle School prior to 7:00 a.m. by using the district’s voice mail system. Only a parent or guardian can excuse a student’s absence.

Medication: If your child requires medication during the school day, you must complete an authorization form which is available in the school office. All medication, prescription and non -prescription, must be stored in the office in it's original package/bottle.

Pre-excused Absences: If you know your child is going to be absent, please have them pick up a pre-excused absence form from the office. They will need to have it signed by a parent or guardian and their teachers, and return it to the office. This will allow us to excuse the absence and allow your child to get their homework ahead of time.

Students Arriving Late/Leaving Early: Students arriving to school late must sign in at the office before reporting to class. Parents or guardians can excuse their child's tardiness by phone or a note. Students leaving before the end of the school day will only be released to a parent or guardian.

Address Changes: The District has updated their policy and if you have a change to your physical address you will need to provide documentation before the school is able to make that update.

Student Items: Parents please make sure items being dropped off are labeled with student's name.

Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day at GMS has been a highlight for many years and this year will be no different. Our Veteran's day celebration may look different than in years past but we will still be honoring our veterans' in a special way. Please stay tuned for more details.
