Hello SKS families ~

I hope that everyone enjoyed their beautiful long weekend ~ what a gift. The teachers had a wonderful day learning together from Sr. Donna about the Catholic Social Teachings. We also worked an SKS team to get feedback on our new Caring Schools Community curriculum and how it is going. Teachers ended the day in their grade level PLC meetings where they are able to talk as a small group on ways to increase teacher capacity at their specific grade level. A very motivating and re-charging day!

Thank you to Adrienne Peco and Kristen Felluca for coordinating the Spirit Shirt ordering and to Adrienne Peco and Laura Owens for sorting them and getting them to teachers to send home to students! We are ready for our first Spirit Day on Wednesday, November 3rd. SKS celebrates Spirit Shirt Day on the first Wednesday of each month. Spirit Shirts take place of their uniform tops and students will wear their uniform bottoms that day. The Spirit Shirt can also be their P.E. uniform top that day as well.

A reminder to all families that the process of preparing for and receiving sacraments should be done at each child’s parish. If your child is in second grade, please make sure to contact your parish to begin Reconciliation and First Holy Communion preparation. Saint Kateri Parish has already begun Reconciliation prep but it is not too late. Our students will be allowed to wear a costume on Friday, October 29th in celebration of Halloween. If you would like your child to wear a Halloween costume, please review, sign and return the costume guidelines sheet.

Students will be able to dress up on Friday, October 29th and participate in the Halloween Parade. We will be parading outside, around our school building beginning at 9:00am ~ weather permitting. If we are able to parade outside, family members will be invited to park around our school loop (from the front to the back) to watch the parade at their cars.

If the weather is not cooperating, we will hold the parade inside the school building. Due to following the social distancing guidelines, families will not be able to come into school to watch if we parade inside.

• We still have several families that have not either added a default plan into PUP or have not updated it since making changes. This becomes very important when their are questions about whether we need to hold a bus or not at the end of the day. Please check to make sure your children's information is correct in PUP.

Each year the Parish offers parishioners the opportunity to purchase Christmas wreaths and poinsettias as a holiday fundraiser. This year SKS is joining in ~ please see the flyer below with details and pick-up dates. #itisnottooearlytothinkaboutChristmas

This is the third year we have partnered with Saint Kateri Parish to both support our community and the Special Touch Bakery community. Special Touch Bakery offers meaningful employment to people of all abilities ~ and they do make really tasty pies! The order form is below with details on pricing and pie pick-up.

The Monroe County Department of Health released updated guidance for schools to follow. I am including it below ~

There are a couple of changes that stand out:

• Unvaccinated Individuals can return to school if symptoms are improving and they are fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. **They must provide a copy of the negative PCR/NAAT test result. It is strongly recommended, but no longer required, to see a medical provider so we will no longer need to have a Doctor Release Letter to return to school.
• *Rapid antigen tests, including home-based tests, are not acceptable - Rapid antigen tests are primarily used for screening asymptomatic individuals, rather than diagnosing those with symptoms. A PCR/NAAT test is more reliable for individuals with symptoms and that is the reason for the updated change.
  

PARENT’S ASSOCIATION 2021-2022

If you are interested in volunteering this year at any of our upcoming school events, we’d love to hear from you! You can help out our school even if you aren’t available to attend the Parent Association meetings. We have the Book Fair, Holiday Shop, and Senior Tea coming up quickly and if we are able (due to Covid), we would love to have some extra hands.

Also, please take a minute and complete the Volunteer Form below (it is also coming home today with your children) and return to school. This was a great way to coordinate the volunteers we need for each event! Thank you!
