A Note from Your Principals
Later this month, teachers will be inviting all of you in for our first round of parent-teacher conferences. Parent-teacher conferences are invaluable opportunities to strengthen the partnership between home and school, fostering a supportive environment for your child's growth. These meetings offer a chance to gain insights into your child's academic progress, social-emotional development, and learning style.
To make the most of this time, here are some tips:
- Prepare questions: Come with specific questions about your child's academic progress, social interactions, and any concerns you might have. This ensures that you leave with the information you value most!
- Share insights: Provide the teacher with insights into your child's interests, hobbies, and learning preferences. This helps the teacher understand your child on a more personal level and allows them to tailor their approach to meet your child's needs.
- Listen actively: Give the teacher an opportunity to share their observations and feedback. Active listening fosters a collaborative relationship and shows that your value their input.
- Set goals together: Work with the teacher to set realistic and achievable goals for your child. This collaborative approach promotes a sense of shared responsibility for your child's success.
- Be open-minded: Approach the conference with an open mind, being receptive to feedback, suggestions, and ways you can support learning at home. Remember, the goal is to work together for the benefit of your child.
- Follow Up: After the conference, follow up on any action items or strategies discussed. Regular communication reinforces the partnership between you and the teacher.
- Celebrate achievements: Take a moment after the conference to celebrate your child's achievements WITH your child, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement encourages continued effort and enthusiasm for learning.
Remember, open communication builds a foundation for a successful learning journey, and parent-teacher conferences play a crucial role in that exchange. Please do not hesitate to pop in to the Main Office while you're here to touch base with Mike or myself. We are part of your child's team and want to ensure that every day they are at Eli Terry they are safe, happy, and learning!
Our Veterans Day Assembly
Our Veterans Day Program this year featured patriotic songs, a slideshow of Eli Terry Veterans past and present, over 30 Veterans in attendance, and our largest donation for Wreaths Across America - $1,098 dollars, enough for 65 wreaths!
Thank you to the veterans and their family members, the staff, and students for making this
a great recognition and honoring of Veterans.
See below for the slideshow and a few pictures of this amazing event!
And....We're FAMOUS!!!!
Parent-teacher conferences begin Wednesday, 11/29 and continue for the following 3 early release Wednesdays (12/6, 12/13, 12/20).
Parent-teacher conferences provide an opportunity to discuss your child's successes and challenges in Trimester #1 and a chance to ask questions about their first progress report. We encourage all families to make this conversation a priority and have shared some tips in our principal's message above for maximizing your time together!
If you have not already scheduled a conference, please reach out to your child(ren)'s classroom teacher or visit the website below!
Oliver's Pajama Project - Final Update
So proud of our Ambassadors and our entire school community!
We collected 440 pairs of pajamas and what an honor it was to deliver them last weekend. Mrs. Hammer's Jeep was so full she couldn’t see out the back window.
On Monday, Oliver was interviewed by Scot Haney and Nicole Nalepa. What an incredible surprise to have him give Eli Terry a HUGE shoutout on the morning news. Check out his interview below!
Thank you for showing our student body that even KIDS can make a difference.
A Peek Inside Our Week
Zaylee was excited to craft with Mrs. Hammer as part of a PAWS raffle win!
Ethan won (and enjoyed!) crafting too!
5th graders preserved and solved the "Three Jug" math riddle. Can you?
Abby brought her axolotl stuffie to school on PJ day, so of course they had to meet Marshmallow!
Marshmello, Ethan Schwartz's new puppy, met Marshmallow the office axolotl!
PTO Events
The Student Ambassadors have partnered with the PTO to hold a FLASH food drive! Please see below for their message and information about next week's collection:
The food drive is coming up! The food drive is to help people who are in need, and give the people food! You can help them too by donating!
The food drive is asking for non-perishable food like cereal, peanut butter, tuna, and macaroni and cheese. We are going to be having a flash food drive, for only a little bit of time. The food drive starts on November 13 and ends on November 16. Only 4 days to donate! But before you can start donating there are a few rules:
They have to be canned, boxed, and non-perishable (meaning they don’t go bad without refrigeration!)
You have to donate by November 16.
Food items have to be store bought and new/sealed.
Collection bins will be outside the Main Office…just like for pajamas!
And just so you know, sadly there will be no prizes this time! This is not a competition, so please no racing to see who gets the most food donated. Any food donations are appreciated.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask one of the student ambassadors or Mrs. Hammer. See the flyer above for the South Windsor Food Bank's most needed items!
