Principal's Message...
This week, I wanted to share the importance of reading your Teacher Newsletters. We use these to communicate changes, updates to curriculum, meeting locations...Through the newsletters, we have tried to limit the emails from teachers and staff (We know that the Schoology emails can be overwhelming. Those can be turned off.) by sending out a weekly newsletter rather than frequent emails throughout the week. In order for this to work, we need your help to read them. We try our best to make them relevant and concise and am always open to suggestions. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. VIDEO #2 - Health Checks
VIDEO #3 - How to Keep Yourself Healthy During COVID-19
VIDEO #4 - Collection of 4 videos explaining - Corona-virus, hand washing, mask wearing & social distancing
Please take time to watch these videos with your student(s).
I will also be sending out a video of specifics related to Tustin Connect highlighting the ways we are preparing for a safe return to campus along with directions for the arrival and the departure of students.
Hybrid Return to School
K-5: August 24th
6-12: August 29th
What this means is that Instructional Schedules will be changing when we return for most students. We have worked hard to come up with creative alternatives and avoid 4-hour instructional blocks when possible. More to come soon including a video with all of the details. Remember, students that chose 100% virtual will remain that way at least through the first trimester (K-5) or semester (6-12). Parents will be able to change to in-person after that time period or remain 100% virtual.
State of the Schools, October 28, 4 pm
The Tustin Public Schools Foundation is pleased to offer the opportunity to hear from Tustin Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Greg Franklin. Click here to register. Now more than ever, the community is needed to support local schools. Join TPSF to hear about how TUSD responded to educate students during the pandemic. Dr. Franklin will share how the school district adapted to changing guidelines, kept the safety of children and staff a priority, kept student learning at the forefront, and offered opportunities for connections during the quarantine.
Although it'll be virtual, the goal is for it to be interactive. Share your questions when you register, and they'll include as many as possible in the presentation.
Sponsorship opportunities are available and will go towards the immediate needs of our schools while offering special recognition online and during the event. Please contact Andrea Dabrow at andrea@tpsf.net to find out more information.
Counselor Corner
The Tustin Unified School District’s Student Services Department is partnering with Hoag ASPIRE to host parent information workshops on youth wellness and mental health. The remaining workshop will be conducted via Zoom on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m.
Parents will learn ways to support youth mental health during the COVID-19 crisis and identify effective strategies to help teens manage stress. Licensed therapists will lead the presentations. The workshops are open to all elementary, middle, and high school parents and caregivers interested in learning how to prevent, respond, and seek support.
FLYERS INCLUDED BELOW.
SEL CORE Survey
Each year TUSD administers a Social Emotional Learning Survey to students in grades 4-12. It measures students' social-emotional health, including self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, growth mindset, and school culture/climate. The survey is administered by teachers and the data is managed by TUSD Ed Services. The survey will provide a snapshot of student wellness school-wide and district-wide. Individual student data will NOT be disaggregated for analysis. If you would prefer that your child does NOT participate in the survey, please return the letter.

TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan
The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.
Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.
For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.
The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
