Principal's Corner
From the Principal's Desk
It is hard to believe we are only a week away from Thanksgiving. How can that be? Are you ready? Or have you already moved past Thanksgiving and right into Christmas? It is easy to do. Black Friday sales start creeping in around Halloween. Christmas songs start playing in stores. All the Christmas feels start popping up everywhere. In the gospel reading yesterday, we heard the familiar story of the ten lepers. "As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Before we rush into the wonderful seasons of Advent and Christmas, may we look at our days and our lives and remember to sing praises of thanksgiving to God for all the ways he has blessed and healed our lives.
Snack Update
In last week's newsletter, I addressed our growing concerns about snacks brought from home. It was stated they should only be a fruit or a vegetable and the question was posed, "What if the snack I am sending is healthier than the snack offered at school, but it is not a fruit or vegetable?" or "What if the snack I send is the same as that offered at school that day? In regard to question one, I concur that sometimes a granola bar or fruit snack from home might have more nutritional value than Pop Tarts or baked chips. We need to be aware that snacks from home need to be prepackaged (not in a ziploc baggie and not candy.) We also should double check that it does not contain those warnings " may contain peanut or nut based ingredients" before we send them in. This is why sending the fruit or vegetable is the best option. As for the nutritional value of the snacks we serve, we are going to take a closer look at our options on the USDA "Smart Snack" list to see if we can offer consistently better choices.
Please know that our school commission is working to update our School Wellness Plan too, so additional practices and changes may be on the horizon.
First Reconciliation
Congratulations to our second graders who made their First Reconciliation yesterday. While words of being nervous as they were getting ready to go to church were expressed, the smiles on their faces afterwards were priceless. They also took the opportunity to visit with Jesus in the Adoration chapel!
Morning Drop-off
Just a reminder that car drop-off in the morning should happen at the back of school in our drop-off line. Several parents are dropping off at the front the building in our bus drop-off zone.
Out of uniform
Just a reminder that we are in uniform tomorrow, but students have free dress on Tuesday of next week.
Blessings,
Mrs. Mauer

St. Louis 7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Batesville
The St. Louis 7th Grade Boys Basketball team lost a hard fought game to Batesville 39-29. The first quarter saw a hard fought quarter as both teams played good defense and both teams could only manage 4 points a piece. The second quarter was the killer quarter for the Cardinals. It saw Batesville go on an 18-2 run in which the Cardinals could not recover from and had a 22-6 halftime deficit. This did not stop the Cardinals though as they started to fight back into the game. They were able to outscore Batesville 12-9 in the 3rd quarter and fought all the way back to 29-35 with a minute to go.
The comeback came up a little short as the Cardinals had a couple of shots to get it a little closer but just couldn't close the gap. The Cardinals were led in scoring by Luke Richardson with 16 points, Cam Anderson had 11 points, and Hunter Young had 2 points.
I am so proud of the boys! They fought hard the whole game and they never gave up. They did all I asked of them and I really cannot say how proud I am.

St. Louis 7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Milan

Thanks,

SLS 5th boys basketball game summary

The Trojans held the Cardinals to only three points in the second half as the Cardinals were not able to get in an offensive rhythm. Scoring for the Cardinals was Johnny Tekulve, 7points; Nathaniel Fuentes, 2 points; Nicholas Lieland, 2 points. The team stayed positive and are ready to get back on the court for their next game.

SLS 5th boys basketball game summary
The fifth grade boys lost to Greendale by a score of 25-10. Greendale was able to get second and third chance shots at the basket and got them to go in. The Cardinals played their most aggressive game of the season on offense and defense but couldn’t get the ball to go on the hoop. Scoring for the Cardinals was Nicholas Lieland, 7 points; Carter Meyer, 3 points. Great hustle Cardinals!
