MCES WEEKLY TOP FIVE FOR PARENTS
UPDATES FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 20
A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM
Greetings to all of our Montclair Families,
This message is coming from the Administration Team at Montclair Elementary. We want to inform you of some changes taking place around the county and at Montclair.
Thanks to federal funding, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is launching free COVID-19 testing to help keep students and employees safe. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' partnership with MAKO, a COVID-19 testing company, offers free rapid testing to students and employees at each school site for quick COVID-19 diagnoses. The minimally invasive rapid antigen testing helps prevent in-school transmission while minimizing the loss of face-to-face learning time. Each school site will provide this free COVID-19 testing, but it is not required. Parents and guardians of CCS students and employees who wish to take advantage of this convenient testing must complete the registration below linked to the CCS website. Once individuals complete the registration process, they will receive additional information from the district about testing dates and times, which will occur before school and during lunch for most students and after school for athletes.
When turning in a parent letter for student absences, please be sure to include the student's First and Last Name and the date of absence. We need you all to format your handwritten letters like this to code each of our students in Powerschool correctly. Additionally, parents, please make sure that you have access to Powerschool. On the Montclair Top Five, a cheat sheet for our parents illustrates how to gain access to most of our online platforms, such as Canvas, Powerschool, and Succesmaker. Suppose you are still unable to get into Powerschool. In that case, your child's teacher will be able to assist you during our Curriculum Night on September 23 from 5:00-6:00. We will share more information at a later date.
While the CCS Board of Ed waived the uniform requirements for the 21-22 School Year, we must still be mindful of our countywide dress code. Shorts need to be of appropriate length. Please remind students that hoods and hats are not to be worn in the building because, if we have an emergency or crisis, we could not identify them on the camera with a hat or hood on their head. Shirts should cover the mid-section, and students should wear pants/shorts around the waist. All undergarments must be covered. Lastly, parents, please be sure that your child comes to school with their mask. Wearing a mask is a requirement for your student to attend in-person learning.
Lastly, while we continue to assign car tags, please understand that there will be a delay in the car rider line while giving parents numbers. Some numbers have been assigned this week. Please have it displayed in your rearview mirror so the number can be seen from the outside. If you have any questions about this, please get in touch with our front office.
Thank you so much for your time as we look forward to a year and rebuilding, refocusing, and reassuring all stakeholders on being Montclair Strong. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns for administrators, please feel free to email us, use Classdojo or contact us in our Facebook group.
