A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Luther Burbank Families,
Luther Burbank is BUSY! The cast for our spring musical, Seussical, Jr., has been announced, our musical ensembles will perform at our annual Winter Concert tomorrow evening, and our boys' and girls' basketball teams will travel to Bolton for their season opener with Florence Sawyer on Thursday afternoon.
We are also in the throes of friendly competition with the Hale Middle School to see which school community can donate the most non-perishable food items to support the WHEAT center in Clinton. To ensure our school's victory, we have "sweetened" the competition just a bit for our students. Grade levels will compete against one another to bring in the most items. The winning grade will see one of their teachers be pied in the face! And, not to be outdone, if (and when) LBMS ultimately does defeat Hale, Mr. Grant and I have both announced that we will also take one for the team - or take a pie in the face, that is. So, please send your child into school with a non-perishable food item or monetary donation for a good cause (and some laughter to be had, for sure)!
As we wind up to wind down, I hope that everyone enjoys the well-deserved winter break around the corner. During the break, I encourage everyone - students, staff, and families - to do their best to relax and take time to pause. It has been wonderful to resume our "normal" schedule and have our community back together again after all of the challenges our community has faced as a result of the pandemic. Yet, normalcy brings busyness. While the busyness is much appreciated, it will be nice for our community to be able to stop and catch their collective breath. Please enjoy the time.
With much gratitude during this holiday season,
Laura

A Little Bit of This and That...
Please, also, remind your child of the necessity of taking good care of their Chromebook. Chromebooks should be transported back and forth to school inside of their Chromebook bag and with intentional care to the device, itself. On any given day, we have approximately 5-10 Chromebooks out for service.
Finally, Mrs. Sama has asked for students to bring in headphones to use with their Chromebooks for engineering class. Thank you!
You're invited to the 2021 Luther Burbank Winter Concert!

Interested in Joining us for a Book Club??? It's Not Too Late!
The cold days ahead offer the perfect time to read a good book, right? Our Luther Burbank faculty is very excited to announce this year's Parent/Teacher Book Club title, How to Talk so Teens Will Listen and Listen So Teens Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
Written by best-selling authors, Faber and Mazlish, this book offers a practical resource with easy-to-implement suggestions to help us tackle the tough issues teens and families face today.
Our Book Club will include three virtual meetings scheduled for January 5th, February 2nd, and March 30th from 6:00-7:00 PM via Zoom. The meetings will be informal - simply an opportunity for us to gather together with parents to discuss strategies presented in a very good book.
Winter Attire, Recess, and Mask Breaks
This year we have continued with our longer recess blocks so that students can benefit from the fresh air and activity. During the winter months, students may elect to play in the snow. In this case, students MUST wear snow boots and snow pants. Thank you for your support with ensuring your child is adequately prepared. We know that sometimes it is tricky to wrangle a middle schooler when it comes to attire, and we appreciate your support from the homefront.
