EL Counselors Provide Backpacks for Students

Knowing it’s a new school year and that some students need school supplies, the team of English Language Counselors packed and distributed 275 backpacks for students. Supplies were “stuffed” into the backpacks with the help of donations and designated funds. Then, they took the backpacks to schools with students in need. A big “thank you” to our EL Counselors for taking the time to support students!

ABC Receives Aa2 Rating from Moody’s

Moody’s Investors Services, the leading provider of credit ratings, has assigned an Aa2 rating to the ABC Unified School District for the district’s Measure BB School Improvement Bond, Series B. Measure BB, the $258 million school improvement bond passed by voters in 2018, has improved schools across the district through the first bond sale, Series A. This credit rating is part of the process of selling the next group of bonds, known as Series B.

“We are extremely pleased with Moody’s rating,” said Interim Superintendent Toan Nguyen. “This rating is a reflection of the district's financial stability, allowing us to sell the bonds at a lower rate, despite the increasing interest rates.”

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Schools across ABCUSD will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success.

WRD Student Art Contest

The Water Replenishment District is holding its 8th Annual Student Art Contest. Students in Pre-K to 6th grade living in the WRD service area have a chance to win prizes and have their artwork published in our 2023 Water Awareness Calendar! Click here to learn more about the student art contest.

Cerritos Active Shooter Seminar

The City of Cerritos, in partnership with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, will be holding an Active Shooter Seminar on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. Learn how to react quickly in an active shooter situation, respond when law enforcement arrives, and control bleeding in life-threatening situations.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Every absence is a missed day of learning. Let's work together to make daily attendance a top priority. Too many absences, excused or unexcused, can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. How many are too many? 10% of the school year, that's 18 missed days or 2 days a month, can knock students off track. Every day in school matters!

We are committed to the well-being of our students, staff, and families and the role it plays in creating a safe and healthy learning environment. In support of this ongoing commitment, we partnered with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care for our community.

Care Solace helps individuals find mental health care providers and substance use treatment centers. Their Care CompanionTM team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year to quickly connect you to carefully verified providers in your community.
